Jesus drove the vehicle in front of us which had Rick, Carl, and Michonne. Daryl drove as I sat shot gun while Rosita and Sasha sat in the back. The car ride was overall quiet as we all grew anxious about meeting 'The King'. Jesus had explained that the leader was treated like royalty and actually considered himself a king. Was he delusional?
Jesus pulled off and parked the car before everyone piled out. Daryl parked behind Jesus before we grouped together and hiked through the woods.
"How much further?" Rick asked, breaking the silence.
"Well, technically, we're already here. I mean, we're always here, but here we are--at the Kingdom. Well, its outer edge." Jesus explained as he stopped mid-stride.
"Hey, what we waitin' on?" Daryl grunted.
"Waiting for them." Jesus smirked as horse hoof beats approached us.
Two men approached us on horses until they came to halt. The first one man spoke, "Who dares to trespass on the sovereign land of the-- Oh, shit. Jesus, is that you?"
"Who are all these people, Paul?" The other man asked.
"Hi, Richard. Alvaro. Nice to see you both." Jesus smiled.
"It's good to see you, too. Your friends, who are they?" Richard pointed to us. Richard and Alvaro appeared very much alike. Both had dark brown hair and wore football-like padding as armour. Alvaro appeared to be younger than Richard as he had a darker beard and no wrinkles on his face. But unlike Richard, Alvaro had a receding hair line and hazel eyes. Richard had more mossy coloured eyes. On their backs they had swords and quivers full of arrows.
"This is Rick Grimes. He's the leader of a like-minded community. These are some of his people. We would like to request an audience with King Ezekiel."
"You say they're a like-minded community. Like-minded how?" Richard narrowed his eyes.
"We live, we trade, we fight the dead. Sometimes others."
"Line up." Alvaro demanded.
Daryl huffed, "Okay. This is a waste of time. C'mon. Let's go."
"Maybe you're right. The King is a busy man. And it's a dangerous world. We don't usually allow a pack of strangers to waltz through our door." Alvaro adjusted himself on the saddle.
"We want to make the world less dangerous, and we are all here to show the King how serious we are about that." Jesus practically pleaded.
The two men shared a glance before Richard placed conditions, "You gotta hand over your guns."
"We only have two." Rick spoke up. Carl and Rosita handed over their weapons to the men. Jesus had warned us prior to leaving Alexandria that we would have to hand over our guns so everyone brought a knife besides Daryl, Michonne and I. Michonne brought her katana while Daryl had his crossbow and his machete. I only brought my bow, quiver and my knife that was attached to my belt.
"Okay." Richard nodded as he eyed us cautiously. "Follow me."
"Before we go in, you have a brain and a backbone, so I'll be talking to you, not Gregory. Whatever you're trying to start here, another protection pact, a trade, none of it matters if we don't start dealing with the real problem--the Saviors." Richard turned to us and eyed Jesus.
Jesus smirked, "You know, Richard, I've never seen you smile. I think that's gonna change today."
Two gates opened up revealing The Kingdom. My jaw dropped at the amount of people that buzzed around working in the gardens and tending to the animals. The whole group gawked as the gates closed behind us. Indistinct conversations could be overheard as we passed through the groups of people while we followed Richard and Alvaro up to an old theatre.
