*still flashback*

The next morning I woke up to a loud rumble of a motorcycle driving by. Making little movement as possible I shifted into a crouch and watched as a camper and four vehicles passed. The group stopped a few clicks ahead of where I had parked the car on the highway. I had parked behind a line up of other vehicles. Sliding my backpack on, I collected my things and crawled out of the car. I quietly crept closer towards the group, staying far enough away that I could eavesdrop.

"We are gonna have to clear these vehicles or turn back." A man said taking charge.

"We don't have the gas to turn back." An elderly man said.

"I'll drive ahead and see if there's a clearing." A deep voice said as the motorcycle engine roared up and took down the highway.

The first man spoke up again, "For the mean time we should scavenge anything we can find out of these cars."

Footsteps spread out and I took that as my cue to get the hell out of there. I crept back to the car I slept in and kept watch with my binoculars. About an hour passed by as the group scavenged through the vehicles. It had been peaceful until the elderly man on the roof of the camper yelled something to the others. They looked passed me, gasped and then started running back to their vehicles. A herd of Biters, larger than I had ever seen, growled as they stumbled their way towards myself and the group.  At this point I didn't care if I was spotted, I just needed to find shelter! I ran to an empty truck and threw my items in as a I climbed into the back seat and hid. I had to cover my mouth and nose with my hand to keep my breathing under control.

After the group of Biters passed the truck I crept out and checked my surroundings. My katana was in hand as I made sure there weren't any stragglers. That's when a little girl let out an ear piercing scream. I crouched behind a car and watched as the girl ran down the side of a bank and into the bush— a biter on her tail! A man and a woman ran after the girl calling her name.

This group was armed and potentially dangerous. I knew that if I helped them find this girl that it would be a way to possibly get help to find my family. I strapped my bag and compound bow across my shoulders snuggly and took off down the bank. I jogged and kept quiet as I listened for their whereabouts. About a mile ahead of me I could faintly hear soft steps. I took out my knife from it's holster on my belt and jogged closer.

"Stay here and don't make any noise. I'll come back." A man spoke and drug the Biters attention away from the girl. I poked out behind the bush and crept closer to the muddy water hole the girl hid in.

"Pssst! Hey!" I said lightly catching the girls attention. She stumbled back in surprise and tried to run away when a Biter emerged from the water and reached for her, it's mouth inches away from chomping her arm. I jumped into the water and pulled her away as I stabbed the Biter in the head. The little girl sobbed.

"Shhh. It's okay! I'm not gonna hurt you and I'm not gonna let anything happen to you. Okay?" I said wiping her tears away as she nodded.

"I'm Ruby! You're a long way from your group. I'm gonna make sure you get back to your group, okay?"

"Okay." She sniffled. "But he told me to stay here."

"Then we'll wait here together okay?"

"Okay." The girl nodded.

We sat in silence on a fallen tree for about five minutes when we heard a gun shot. I stood up and raised my knife and stood in a fighting stance. Branches crunched in the distance creeping closer our way. Biters dispersed from the trees and came right at us. I was ready to fight but we were out numbered. One against seven outweighed the odds of us surviving.
