I woke feeling refreshed. Sunlight peaked through the curtains and lit up the room. I stretched and sat up on the bed. It had been so long since I had slept in an actual bed! My muscles thanked me. I lifted the covers and slid out. I eyed the closet and smirked, I think it's time for some clean clothes.
I took out a black AC/DC band t-shirt and a pair of dark washed blue jeans. I then went into my moms dresser and took out clean underwear and socks. I shimmied out of my old clothes and put on my clean ones. To finish my outfit I slipped on my belt with my knife holster. I had always had it on me and didn't plan on leaving it behind.
I had closed the door mostly last night, only leaving it open a crack so that Daryl could easily come in if he needed to. Sadly he hadn't though. I'm not sure why I expected him to come in but I wanted him to.
On top of the dresser was moms old hair brush. I held it in my hand for a moment before brushing my hair out. My poor hair had been matted badly so it took me a while to brush out every last knot. I then tied my hair back into a pony tail and tied on my boots. Sliding the katana strap over my shoulder, I checked on Daryl.
I knocked lightly on the door and pushed it open lightly but Daryl was gone. Only his bag remained on the bed. I frowned slightly as I sauntered down the stairs. The cabin was brightly lit by the sunshine. I saw smoke outside the window and clued in to where the redneck disappeared to. The front door creaked as I opened it and joined Daryl outside. Daryl sat on the bench smoking a cigarette.
"Good morning." I smiled lightly, leaning against the door frame.
His eyes trailed down my body as he exhaled the smoke. "G'mornin'."
"How was your sleep?" I asked, awkwardly crossing my arms over my chest.
"Good." He grunted. "Yers?"
"Good." I crossed my legs and tapped my foot. We both stayed silent. I gazed around the property that I called home. It was so peaceful and I felt complete. Especially with Daryl here.
"Ya hungry?" I huffed, my stomach growling in protest.
Daryl slowly turned his head to me with a raised eyebrow. He exhaled the smoke, "Ya got food?"
I nodded as I walked into the house and opened the closet. Smiling I put on my dads red and black plaid jacket. As I eyed the gun cabinet I accidentally pushed over an object. I knelt down and eyed the fishing rod with a small smile. With the fishing rod and fishing net in hand I walked back out the front door and closed the door behind me.
"When's the last time you went fishing?" I raised an eyebrow at Daryl.
Daryl stood as he stomped out his cigarette, "Been a while."
"Well I think it's time we eat something other than rodents, oatmeal, spam or spuds." I smiled as I jogged down the steps and turned to see if Daryl was following. Sure enough Daryl followed as he carried his crossbow. I followed a trail around the back of the cabin towards the woods.
Daryl stopped, "Ain't the lake back that way?"
I turned back to him with a small smirk on my face, "Who said anything about a lake?"
Daryl followed me as we walked along the old trail to our destination. Daryl shot down a few squirrels along the way and stuffed them into his satchel. I knew we were close when I heard the faint sound of water splashing.
As we made our way through the trees we came across a cascading waterfall. Salmon and trout jumped through the stream and down the river.
