Chapter Seven
The Cemetery
Mid-day came quicker than Reine expected. The young woman impatiently waited on the front porch for her sister to return. Sookie was cutting it real close. If she didn't hurry, she would be late for work. "Come on Sook." Reine said to herself as she went to sit on the stairs. Just as soon as she took a seat, she saw Sookie's yellow car off in the distance. Reine popped up from the step and hurried out into the driveway.
It took only a few seconds before Sookie parked the car in front of the house. Reine ran over to the car and opened the driver's side door. "Cutting it a little close, Sook."
"Sorry. I went to the Rattrays." Sookie said as she got out of the car.
"Why would you go there?" Reine asked as she jumped into the car. Sookie was always poking her nose in places that it didn't belong. One day, it was going to get her in trouble.
"I needed to see what happened."
"You know what happened. There was a tornado, and it took out their trailer." Reine said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Don't you find it weird it didn't hit any other trailers?" Sook questioned her sister.
"I mean, I guess? I haven't really thought about it." Reine paused and placed her hands on the steering wheel as she looked out the front window. "It's none of our business, Sook. You need to stay out of it."
"And you need to question things more." Sookie shot back. "Not everything is what it looks like, Rae."
Reine rolled her eyes at her sister's words. "I have to go. I'm gonna be late for work. See you tonight." The teenager shut the door and pulled out of the driveway before her sister could say another word.

When Reine walked into Merlotte's, she noticed right away that it was already busy -especially for the afternoon hours. "Hey Rae." Sam greeted with a warm smile.
"Hey, Sam. How's your day going?" Reine asked as she leaned against the bar.
"Pretty good. Can't complain." Sam said. "How's yours?"
"Same ol' same ol'." Reine replied as she tied her apron around her waist. "What's the occasion?" Rae asked, motioning her head toward the dining section. "There haven't been this many people here for lunch since Easter."
"No clue." Sam shrugged his shoulders in response. He had been wondering the same thing. They were usually only this busy around holidays. However, today, the dining section was filling up quickly. Give or take an hour, he was sure that it would be full of customers. It didn't bother him any, it meant more money in his pockets -which was something he always needed. He had so many repairs that needed to be made between the bar, his rentals, and his own trailer. It cost him a good penny. "Better get going though before there are more customers."
Reine nodded, slipped her notepad and pen out of her apron pocket, and went to start her rounds.

When Reine's shift was over, it was early evening. She hurried out of Merlotte's -once she said her goodbyes- and jumped into her sister's car. The young woman peeled out of the parking lot and drove off towards her Grans' house.
Rae pulled into the driveway and shut off the car, shoving the keys in her pocket as she jumped out of the car. Making her way inside, she placed Sookie's keys on the side table where she usually kept them. "I'm home!" Reine said as she made her way upstairs to her room. She needed to change out of these clothes. She was tired of smelling of beer and fried food.
