Chapter Twenty

The Bond

Just as fast as Reine disappeared, she reappeared. For a few minutes, her world was a blur. It took her a moment to figure out where she was. "Reine!" The sound of her sister's voice caught her attention. Rae shook her head as she attempted to gather herself. "Where did you go? What happened?" Sookie's questions hurriedly poured from her mouth.

"I was in... in Hades." Rae finally answered. "I escorted Gran to the Ferryman."

Sookie immediately felt her sister's head to see if she had a fever. "You're still in shock, Reine."

"No, Sookie. I'm telling the truth! I was in Hades. I met Charon and he told me that my job is to escort souls to the underworld."

Bill looked over the young woman for a moment before he spoke. "I believe she's telling the truth, Sookie." The vampire was quiet, he could tell that Reine was exhausted. "Would you like to come over to my place and rest? I'm sure you don't want to stay here." Before Reine could answer Andy came over and began to ask her questions.

"I realize you're probably in shock, Reine. But I need to ask you some questions." Andy said as he pulled out a notepad and pen. "Can you give me a description of the perpetrator?"

Reine took a deep breath and nodded. "He was around six foot tall, I can't tell you his weight. But he wore a pair of blue jeans and a yellow t-shirt. His face was covered with a ski mask."

"Did he say anything at all to you?" Andy inquired.

"No, I'm sorry. He didn't say anything. But he did use one of our kitchen knives as a weapon." Reine informed the officer. "I think he took it with him."

"Thank you, Reine." Andy said as he scribbled down what she said on the paper. "If you can think of anything else just give us a call."

"Thank you officer. Andy." Reine said as she leaned her head back against he couch. She needed to get out of here. She couldn't handle the smell of blood, or the fact that she kept seeing the man stab her Gran over and over again. She could even feel the pain from the stab wounds. Reine knew this was psychological, Bill had given her his blood to heal her. "Bill, I think I'll take you up on your offer. Just let me get some things together then we can go." Pausing, Rae looked over at her sister. "Will you be ok here by yourself?"

"I'll be fine. We have far more good memories here than bad."

A smile formed on Reine's lips. "I agree, but I can't be here right now."

"I understand. You just take your time and when you're ready to come back you can." Sookie squeezed her sister's hand as she hugged her tightly. She was so happy she was safe. She wasn't sure what she would do if she lost Reine too.It was bad enough losing Gran.

"I'll just be a second." She told Bill as she hurried up the stairs to her room. She hurried and shoved clothes into a bag and added some make up as well. Once she was finished packing she went downstairs. She tried her hardest not to look in the kitchen. She knew blood was still everywhere.

Bill stood and went over to the young woman. "If your ready will be leaving."

Reine nodded in response. The man put his hand on the small of her back and led her outside. "I apologize for what happened tonight.

Reine took a deep breath and slowly let it out. "I just wish I knew who did this. And why! It wasn't a burglary, there was nothing missing." Rae couldn't figure it out. The man used a knife so it was a personal kill. And don't even get her started on the amount of time he stabbed her and Gran. "It was a personal kill, Bill." Rae informed her friend as they reached the cemetery. There were golden glowing orbs floating around which caused Reine to avoid them all together.

"We'll find out who did this, Reine. I promise." Bill said as the two walked along the graves. It wasn't long before they reached Bill's house. The vampire escorted her inside and up the stairs to one of the bedrooms. "I apologize for the condition of the house."

"There's no need to apologize, Bill. Thank you for doing this for me. I don't know how I would have been able to stay home. I just hope Sook is ok."

"I'm sure she'll be fine. Besides, I gave her my blood. I can tell when she's in danger." Bill told the young woman as he went over to the windows to shut the curtains. It would be dawn soon. Not long from now he would need to go to ground.

"Is that how you knew I was in trouble?"

Bill nodded in response. "My blood allows me to tell when you're in need of help. I can sense your emotions as well."

"What else does your blood do?" Reine questioned as she went to sit on the edge of the bed.

"You'll be stronger, have enhanced senses, and..."

"And?"

"You'll have sexual dreams of me." Bill finally told the young woman. "You drank a lot of my blood, Reine. You were about to die when I got to you. The amount you drank will make the bond stronger."

Blush painted her cheeks as she looked down at the ground. "Try and get some sleep, Reine. You're safe here." The vampire said as he made his way out into the hall. "Good night." The man said just as he shut the door.

"Good night, Bill."
