The next afternoon, Reine sat out on the front porch reading. It was her day off -which she was quite happy about. She needed a day to relax. As she turned the page in her book, the sound of the front door opening caught her attention. She looked over to see Sookie. "Hey, Sook."
"We need to talk." Sookie said as she went to take a seat next to her sister.
"What about?" Reine asked. Closing her book, giving her sister her full attention.
"How did you do that last night?" Sookie inquired.
"I don't know. It just happened." Reine admitted. She didn't know how the shadows came out of her hands. She never imagined something like this would happen to her. This wasn't something that she was ready to deal with. She had school coming up, work took up most of her free time, and now this.
"Can you do it again?"
Reine shrugged her shoulders as she held out her hand and attempted to form shadows. However, nothing appeared. "I guess not."
"Maybe if you practice?" Sookie suggested.
"Maybe." Reine replied as her gaze flicked to her hand. She wondered why she couldn't form a shadow now. Maybe it only happens at night? Rae thought as she brought her hand to her side. "It might have been a one time thing, Sook. Whatever it was though, it saved your life."
"Thanks, Rae." Sookie said as she leaned down and placed a kiss on top of her sister's head. I need to head to work. I'll see you later." Sookie hurried off to her car, leaving Reine to read her book in peace.

It was the next day. Reine and Adele were in the kitchen. Rae was preparing a late lunch while Gran relaxed at the table. The sound of the door opening filled the room. Rae looked over her shoulder to see a very pale Sookie. "You okay Sook?"
"Hey, you two." Sookie greeted.
"I heard." Gran told her granddaughter. About an hour ago she got a phone call from one of her friends telling her about Dawns murder and that Jason was arrested. She hadn't told Reine yet because she wasn't sure how she would take it. Rae was close to both her siblings so she knew she would take it hard.
"About Jason too?" Sook asked.
"What about Jason?" Rae asked as she flipped a potato pancake.
Sookie looked over at her sister with a serious expression on her face. "They arrested Jason for murder."
"He didn't do it, you know." Gran told her girls.
"I know." Sookie replied as she took a seat at the table.
Reine was quiet as she finished frying the pancakes. She couldn't believe they arrested him for murder! There was no way that her brother could have done something like that. Yes, he had his problems but he would never go as far as murdering someone.
"Jason may be many things, but he's not a murderer." Gran informed the two young women.
"I know..." Sook said.
"I just can't imagine him hurting someone." Reine commented. "Do you think it was self-defense?" The query left her lips as she placed the pancakes on a plate.
"I don't know, Reine." Sookie responded.
"The thing is though girls... in all the years I've lived on Bon Temps, I can't recall but... two, maybe three murders, and now there are two in one week. People are not gonna stand for it. And if the police can't find the person who did it, they're gonna find Jason. He needs your help."
