Third Person's POV:
Gaby's training session with Sensei Silver last night must've filled her with a lot of adrenaline because it was now 8:15 am and she has spent the last 7 hours or so since it ended practicing karate in her living room.
Having seen the time on her cable box, Gaby went over to her bedroom and changed into her gi. Once she had it on, she grabbed her phone — which was still off, and sitting on the couch — and left her apartment.
She turned on her phone and was standing outside in the apartment's parking lot and ordering an Uber when she heard Miguel's voice come from behind her.
"Gaby! Are you okay? You haven't been answering your phone," he said, his voice sounding worried.
Gaby stared at him for a moment and all she could feel was indifference. It was weird, he was her enemy, she should hate him for showing her pity, but she didn't. Actually, now that she thought about it, she hasn't really felt much of anything since last night. The only thing she could feel or focus on was how much she wanted to beat Sam, how much she hated her.
Gaby shrugged, "My dad had a heart attack, that's why you probably heard sirens."
Miguel's eyes widened in alarm, "Oh my god, is he okay?"
"He was fine last night, I'm not too worried about it," Gaby replied.
Miguel stared at her in shock, "How are you not worried? That's your dad."
Gaby rolled her eyes, "Because that's not what's important right now. The tournament is the only thing that matters. Now, in case you've forgotten, we're not friends. So if you could stop acting like we are, that'd be nice," she said before walking towards her Uber, which had just arrived.
By the time Gaby got to where the tournament was being held, it was 8:45, 15 minutes before the tournament started. She got out of the Uber and walked into the building, immediately getting bombarded by a worried Tory Nichols.
"Oh my god, I've been worried sick. Why haven't you been answering your phone?" she asked while giving her girlfriend a big hug.
Gaby wrapped her arms around Tory and said, "My dad had a heart attack yesterday morning, so I was a little preoccupied."
Tory quickly pulled away, her face looking concerned, "Holy sh*t, is he okay?"
"He's fine, don't worry about it," Gaby replied.
Tory's eyebrows furrowed, "Of course I'm worried, that's a big deal. Are you sure you should even be here?"
Gaby suddenly felt a wave of rage come over her, "Of course, I should be here. I've been training non-stop for this for a year; why are you trying to ruin it?"
Tory's eyes widened at her accusatory tone and said, "I'm not trying to ruin anything. I just want to make sure that you're okay."
"Whatever," Gaby scoffed before walking into one of the empty training rooms. The room had dummies, punching bags, boards, and a variety of weapons.
Gaby stood in the middle of the room and started to practice her kata, she practically had it down pact since she'd been practicing her routine for hours earlier that morning.
She lost track of time while she practiced, and was interrupted when Robby opened the door and said, "Hey, the tournament's about to start. We're all supposed to meet up by the mat."
Gaby stopped and looked at him, nodding her head, "Alright, thanks for letting me know," she said before they both left the room and walked to where the rest of the dojo was.
