Accident

Matt's POV
Last night when Alexa left, I tried to find her but she was gone. Now I'm heading to the fire station with Gabby, silence between us. Once we get to the building, we hear from the guys from third shift talking about an incident during the night. As I get closer, I can hear what their saying. Barlow, a firefighter is talking.

Barlow: You should have been there. It was a car accident. The car was upside down, half of it was hanging over the edge of the bridge. The driver, had a piece of the metal bar, that there is on the side of the road, in her stomach.

Cruz: Was she conscious?

Barlow: No. When we took her out she was still unconscious. I don't think anything changed when the paramedics took her. I think she was in a pretty bad shape.

Otis: What about the car?

Barlow: It fell off. Crashed on the ground. If we hadn't taken her out on time she would be dead by now. Now guys, excuse me, but I need to go home, to get some sleep.

Barlow leaves the station, leaving us to continue the shift. Boden comes then and looks at us with a nervous and sad look.

Boden: I just got a call from Med.

Cruz: Is Herrmann OK?

Boden: Yeah, Herrmann's fine. Someone else isn't.

We all frown as we can't think of someone that could be in Med, so we wait for Chief's next words. He looks at me and then I realize it, not wanting to believe it.

Boden : Alexa was brought to the Med in the middle of the night. She had a car accident. She is in a pretty bad shape and the doctors can't know yet if she'll make it.

A pain, like a thousands knives, goes through my body, as I hear chief's words.

Mouch: Wait, you mean that... the story Barlow told us, was about Alexa?

Matt:Yes...

I respond before Boden does. I look at him and he nods.

Boden: Okay 51, let's pay a visit to Med.

We all rush to our vehicles and drive to Med.

The doors open and i rush into the lounge. There i see Will Halstead talking to a nurse, once he sees me, he rushes over to me.

Will: Matt..

Matt:Where is she? Is she ok?

Will:We just took her out of surgery. She had a piece of metal that went through her stomach. She lost a lot of blood and she suffered from internal bleeding. When she crashed, she hit her head and pieces of glass scratched parts of her face. Now, until she's stabilized, we'll wait to see if her body will help us keep the bleeding from reappearing. She hasn't shown any signs of reaction cause her body in order to fight the injuries, has put Alexa into a coma.

I widen my eyes at his words.

Matt: Ca-can i see her?

He nods and i follow him in Alexa's room.

Once i get in, i see her sleeping. She has bandages on her head and a tube in her mouth, which helps her breath. Her face has bruises and some scratches. 

Will: She can hear you. Just so you know, she won't wake up unless she wants to. You can persuade her to do that.

I nod at him and he walks out of the room. I sit on a chair next to Alexa's bed and grab her hand.

Gabby's POV

I am sitting in the lounge next to Sylvie and i wait for Matt to come out. Suddenly, a few doctors and nurses start running towards a room and later, Matt comes out of there.

Gabby:What happened?

I ask him as he comes close enough to hear me. 

Matt:Alexa goes back in surgery. Turns out the bleeding started again.

I look at him frightened of what might happen to Alexa. Matt's eyes frown at the sight behind me so i turn around to see what he's looking at. Turns out it's just Alexa's friends.

Matt:Who informed them about the accident?

Gabby:I did. I asked Antonio to give me their phone numbers. Once we learned about Alexa, i called them. 

Matt: Oh, good. It's better that they know. These people are everything to Alexa and it's good for her to have them around her.

I nod in agreement and then Mia, walks up to us.

Mia:What happened? Where is she? Is she ok?

After we explain to them the situation, we all end up waiting for Halstead in the waiting room. Alexa's friends sit across from me and Matt is sitting next to me. In order to break the silence, i make an attempt to speak, which succeeds.

Gabby:So, since when do you know Alexa?

Mia:Wow, good question, um...let's say...9, 10 years?

Matt: That much?

Dom and Mia nod.

Matt: And how did you meet her?

Dom: Umm, well i was driving and i saw her walking alone in the dark, so i asked her if she was okay.

Gabby: Hold on, hold on. You were driving? How old were you?

Dom: Driving...

He says in a sarcastic tone.

Dom:I had taken the car for a ride. I think i was, twelve years old.

Me and Matt widen our eyes.

Dom: Yeah, Alexa told me she had run away from home, and i asked her if she needed a ride somewhere. After finding out that she had nowhere to go...

Mia: He brought her to our home and she never left.
