With her knees hugged to her chest, head bowed, eyes downcast, looking at nothing in particular, Akshara Birla sat huddled in a dark corner of her room in her native home.

There was a dreading silence in her soul. She was dead leave under the frost. She felt the cold in her blood, a cold that immobilized the synapses in her brain. It was partly pain, but a pain she could not bear, a pain she could not endure night after night without the anesthesia of a false hope. The hope that this was all just a horrible nightmare and that she would soon wake up to reality.

A reality where he was still there.

A reality where she would wake up in his protective arms. Her Abhimanyu.

Hope. A mere hope. That's what all it was. An unrealizable wish of her broken soul. Because Abhimanyu Birla, was no more part of her life. She's lost her most precious treasure and she could only blame herself.

"Goodbye, Akshara."

Never in her wildest dreams she would've thought that two words could haunt her this much. But it did. A 'goodbye' followed by her name. It shouldn't hurt her this much. It shouldn't shatter her to no extent. But it did. Because the person who uttered those words was her Abhi.

Abhimanyu Birla, the loving son of the Birla family and groom of the Goenka family, stood unwavering in front of the media. True to his honest, straightforward personality, he had just exposed the reality of his deceased sister to the world. A reality that shook the Birlas, especially Anand and Mahima Birla, and relived the Goenkas as it set their son, Kairav Goenka free from the non committed crime that he was accused of.

Anisha Birla's death was an accident. Kairav Goenka was innocent. In fact, he's the victim as he was threatened to keep the heartbreaking secret of his deceased fiancé. He was forced to leave him home, his family and lived one traumatic year as an accused of a crime he never committed.

And Abhimanyu Birla, had finally set him free from that burden. He proved his innocence to the world and bowed down in front of his in law's family without an ounce of ego. But in guilt, regret and repentance.

Heartfelt tears and apologies were exchanged. The media left. His family left. Her family left. But he stood there, frozen on spot, his eyes on one person. Who stood facing him without blinking, with millions of feelings crashing her being. The love of his life. The only woman of his life. His wife. The same wife for who he'd sent divorce papers to. The same wife who signed those papers in the very temple where they reunited and walked away from his life—or more like, he urged her away from his life.

A life without her was never an option for him. He knew this from the very start, when he fought tooth and nail for her love long before having her rightfully as his. But now, after one year filled of one millions deaths without her, he knew that he could barely breathe without her by his side. His biggest fear was to lose her. It came true in the past year leaving his being shattered, his world crumbled into pieces with no going back. And so the fear intensified, since he knew what it felt like to live with it.

What if I lose her again?

That question was the motor of all his fears, doubts and traumas. He barely survived the first time. He knew from the depth of his heart that he won't survive a second time. And you see, fear make us do crazy things. Crazy things like sending divorce papers to your wife without who you can't live. The only person who you need like a heart needs its heartbeats.
