✭ .・。.・゜IT WAS 7:30 am, and i was already ready to head to the sandlot. i had to wake up isaac and then tell scotty that isaac was coming— because even if he couldn't isaac would still find a way.
i walked downstairs and said good morning to my mom. she was sitting at the table, drinking her coffee. i walked to isaac's room and pushed the door open.
and sure enough, he was dead asleep. i walked over to him and pushed him awake.
"isaac, it's almost 8. if you wanna come you better get ready"
he groaned and rubbed his eyes. then i made my way out, going to the kitchen and grabbing a bowl of cereal. i fixed my gaze towards the tv, watching whatever movie my mom had on.
a few moments later, isaac came out of his room, hair still a big mess but dressed somewhat nice. he walked into the kitchen and poured himself a bowl of cereal.
after we were both ready to go, we headed out and said goodbye to mom. scotty was sitting on our porch, fidgeting with his glove.
"oh, hey guys" he said while standing up.
"hi scotty. is it okay if isaac comes? he wouldn't stop bugging me about it last night"
"yeah, i'm pretty sure the boys will let him. but we better start walking so we aren't late again"
isaac smirked and followed behind us. benny came out of his house once we made it out of the driveway.
"hey guys" he said, slightly jogging to catch up with us.
"hi benny, this is my brother. is it okay if he plays with us today?"
"yeah, you any good?" benny asked, turning his gaze towards my brother. i heard him slightly scoff, so i smacked his arm lightly.
"yeah, i basically taught ally how to play" he smirked.
"your such a liar, i taught myself. you've always sucked, remember" i said, crossing my arms. isaac rolled his eyes while scotty and benny laughed.
on our way there, all the sandlot boys joined us. i stood in between isaac and scotty, mostly because isaac wouldn't let me stand next to anyone else.
when we made it there, we all got into our places, me taking left center. issac squeezed in, since there was already more than enough people.
some of the boys were still not so happy about me being on the team, mostly the younger ones. they all introduced themselves yesterday when we were walking home.
for some reason, even though i haven't even been playing with these boys for 2 days, i found a small sense of comfort. maybe because scotty was there, but i felt like one day everyone would grow on me.
after the game, we all sat at the dugout. isaac's shirt was drenched, mostly because of the heat. it was tolerable.
"smalls, can i have a water please?" i asked him, wiping the beads of sweat off of my forehead with the back of my arm.
he nodded, walking over to the cooler and grabbing me a ice cold water. once he placed it in my hands, i immediately started chugging it. isaac still sat next to me, fanning himself with his hat.
benny found his way towards us, also grabbing a water and popping the cap off.
i tried not to stare, because i didn't wanna be weird, so i set my gaze onto the floor."what's up?" he asked, leaning onto the side of the dugout. my eyes traveled to him, and before i could reply, isaac decided say something.
"you guys are crazy. i have no clue how you don't die everyday" he said, snatching the water bottle from my hands and downing it.
"wow, that's rude" i scoffed. benny chuckled and even though i wasn't looking at him, i could feel his eyes on me.
"i have to get home early today. i have to do the dishes" scotty said, breaking the silence. isaac reached forward and ruffled his hair.
"of course you do. let's head out als" he said, standing up.
"don't call me that" i said, rolling my eyes.
we all headed out of the sandlot, benny on my left and scotty on my right. i haven't really talked to anyone other than bertram and benny. they were definitely the nicest— aside
from denunez."so, how are you liking california so far?" benny asked, slightly turning his gaze towards me.
"it's good so far. y'know, i can't wait to go see all the fun places here. i really wanna go to santa monica beach"
"i've been there lots of times. maybe we can all go one day" he smiled. i smiled back, slowly turning my head to look infront of me. i didn't know what it was, but for some reason i felt warm. like a small blanket was wrapped around my heart.
cutting me off from my thoughts, i felt an arm curl over my shoulder.
"yeah, i basically taught her everything about baseball. everytime you see her playing and think 'wow' just know who to give credit to" isaac smirked.
"shut up. you definitely did not teach me, we've been over this millions of times" i pushed his arm off of my shoulder.
"whatever lil sis" he said, ruffling my hair.
the group slowly decreased, given that we were not even a couple of minutes away from home. ham said goodbye to us, and then it was just the four of us again. benny stood to my left, while isaac and scotty talked to my right.
"i meant to tell you this yesterday, but your really good at baseball. not that it's surprising or whatever, but your actually really good." benny spoke, his eyes glowing from the sun.
"wow, thank you. no one has actually ever said that to me" i smiled. i felt my cheeks warm up slightly, so i turned my head to look infront of me.
"of course" he said. even though i wasn't looking at him, i could see in the corner of my eye that his lips had curled into a small but noticiable smile. his words stuck with me, my mind nowhere else.
"okay, i'll see you guys tomorrow" benny walked towards his house. i waved while isaac & scotty said bye.
"oh, wait! i forgot to tell the others, but my mom was planning on having a barbecue on saturday. she wanted me to tell you guys" scotty said.
"okay, that sounds fun. i'm sure we'll be there"
"yup, see you scotty" isaac waved. we said goodbye and walked into the house. as soon as i opened the door, the aroma of food filled my nose. i'm sure issac noticed too, because he pushed me aside and basically ran in.
"hi mom. whatcha making" he said, walking into the kitchen. my mom was frying something, and it smelled like shrimp.
"shrimp pasta. it'll be ready in 30" she smiled. the sound of music filled my ears, specifically 'shout' by Tears For Fears. my mom swayed her hips to the music, and i joined her shortly.
