skins played on the tv, brightening my room. issac was gone, so i had the whole house to myself.

i rested my head on my hand, fidgeting with my blanket. i felt like doing nothing, but at the same time i was bored. i rolled over and sat up, trying to think of what to do.

i heard a knock coming from downstairs so i lazily walked down and opened the door.

phillips stood outside, smiling. i sighed.
"hi" i said quietly.

"hi ally. can i take you somewhere?" he asked, nervously playing with the strings of his hoodie.

"it depends on where" i said.

"the diner. i haven't seen you in a long time, and i just wanted to hangout" he said. i nodded.

"i'll be right back" i said, closing the door and walking upstairs. i threw on a hoodie and put my hair in a bun. i put on my converse and went back downstairs.

i opened the door, and he was still standing there, tapping his foot on the ground.

"okay, let's go" i smiled. the walk there we just talked about random things.

"also, i'm sorry for the kiss. i swear i'm not trying to get in between you and benny" he said, staring at the ground.

i kicked a rock and sighed. "it's okay. just don't do anything like that again" i giggled.

as we made it to the diner, the whole place lit up. i've never seen it during night.

he opened the door for me as we stepped inside.

the waiter took us to one of the booths and placed our menus on the table.

"so, you're going to north view when school starts right?" he asked.

"yeah, i think. but everyone says it's a bad school" i sighed.

"nah, it's just the people. mostly the girls. watch out for anna" he said.

"anna? who's that"

"oh, some girl who's been obsessed with benny since like 3rd grade." he said.

"oh" i said, flipping through the menu. that's why benny got so quiet that one time bertram brung her up.

the waiter came by a few minutes later and took our orders. we both got pancakes and milkshakes.

i rolled the straw paper into a ball and threw it at him. i giggled and he rolled his eyes.

"also my friend is having a bonfire on friday. my sister wants you to come" he said, taking a sip from his drink.

"i dunno, i'll see" i said. he nodded.

once we finished, phillips payed and we headed outside. there was a group of teenagers standing by the door.

as we walked out, a girl stopped him.
"hey danny. do you know where benny is?" she asked, chewing on her gum obnoxiously.

he glared at me and i scoffed.
"no, i don't. i'll see you later okay" he said, grabbing my arm and pulling me away.

"oh my god, that's his girlfriend? jesus" she said, crossing her arms over her chest. i stopped and turned around.

"please don't start ally" phillips said, placing his hand on my shoulder. i stared at her.

"yeah, i am. why? jealous?" i asked her.

"definitely not. i'm just surprised he would go that low" she said, turning on her heels.

i grabbed her hair and threw her onto the floor.  i started punching her repeatedly in the face. a couple seconds later phillips and all her friends were pulling her off of me.

"benny doesn't fucking want you" i said, turning around and walking away. phillips followed behind me.

"jesus fuck" he said, laughing.
"i didn't know you could punch that hard"

"she got on my nerves" i shrugged.

"she's gonna be on your ass the whole school year dude" he said.

"i don't care, as long as she stays away from benny" i said.

the rest of the walk home was silent, but comfortable. i was proud of myself for what i did, but my knuckles were starting to sting.

as we made it to my house, i thanked phillips and said goodbye. i immediately rushed to my room to clean my knuckles.

as i opened the door, benny was sitting on my bed.
"oh hi, what are you doing here" i said, heading to the bathroom and leaving the door open.

"i wanted to see you" he said.

"i'm gonna tell you something, but don't be mad at me" i said, walking over to him and sitting on the bed.

"you don't have to. i already know" he spoke sternly. i stared at him confused.

"huh?" i asked.

"don't act stupid ally. i know you were with phillips" he said, standing up.

"we're just friends benny, i promise. he wanted to apologize" i said.

"right. you were just friends when you guys kissed too?" he said, raising his voice.

"benny, you know nothing is going on between me and him. i would never do that to you. and he kissed me, i didn't even have enough time to pull away because of how fast he did it" i said. he shook his head.

"benny please" i said, grabbing his shoulder. he stepped away from me.

"if you wanna keep betraying me and the guys, we're done. it's not that hard to not fucking talk to him ally" he said, then he quickly walked out the door and slammed it.

i just stood there, staring at where he was standing a few seconds ago. i had no excuse this time, and i already knew i fucked up. i sat on my bed and just stared. i didn't even cry.
