I MEERA I

This last week has been so hectic. I had to turn in two assignments as well as a group seminar report and a few of the students in our group didn't show up, so the ones that did had to do more work. We notified the professor about our situation but she was no help. She didn't give us more time but asked us the names of the students that didn't co-operate.

So I was finally tension free after submitting the report in the last minute, earning the professor's stink eye. I met Diya in the cafeteria and we brough coffees and sandwiches before taking a seat on one of the seats to the back of the cafeteria.

"I'm so tired. I swear, I didn't get any sleep this week", I tell her as I take a sip of my hot coffee.

"So, you finally have time to spend with me", she says.

"Yeah, I'm sorry. I really was busy", I tell her. I had to attend the group project after classes and when I did get free time, Diya had classes. So we couldn't see each other much this week.

"It's alright. I was a little busy too. So I can't blame you.", She says.

"So... You and Vikram got together yet?", She asks and I groan.

Vikram ,Vikram, Vikram!

Do they have nothing else to ask?

Even Remya asks the same question everytime she calls.

"What?", She asks, "why do you put yourself through this?", she laughs when she sees me fake-crying.

"I don't know. He's getting insufferable every day", I tell her.

But I haven't talked to him in a week. I was not actively avoiding him but I didn't seek him out either. We exchanges texts sometimes but that was it. We seem to have a pattern. We get close, we avoid each other, well, I avoid him. And it's a cycle. I'm sure he's tired of my stupid ass.

"Poor guy", she says and I nod. She's right.

"Anyways, my dad called. He wants to visit me next week. I told him I'll introduce you to him. If it's okay with you?", She asks, a little unsure and I place my hand on top of hers'

"I'd love to meet your dad. I only saw him once in that video call", I tell her and she beams.

"Okay, then. I'll tell you the details when he arrives. He's a little too excited. So don't mind him if he asks too many questions or talks your ears off", she says.

"You make him sound like a kid", I tell her.

"Just you wait. You'll get what I mean when you actually meet him", she says and I nod.

I listen as Diya goes into a detailed version of the conversation she had with this guy she likes. She has told me about this guy that sits next to her in one of her classes.

"I'm not sure if he sees me as a friend or someone he'd like to date", she sighs.

"He sounds a little confusing", I say. "I mean, why stop talking to you just because someone asked if you two were dating?", I ask her.

"Yeah", she says.

"Wait, maybe he's shy? And he was afraid of your reaction?", I ask. It could be possible. I mean I don't know how men think, they're a little weird.
