I MEERA I
Shraddha and Karthik is cuddling on the sofa, netflix playing some random movie in the background, when I enter the apartment. I gently close the door when Karthik signs that Shraddha is asleep.
They're so cute, I want to throw up.
"Did you eat?", Karthik asks me in a whisper.
"Yeah", I whisper back though I'm wondering why we're whispering at all, Shraddha sleeps like the dead. When we were kids, our mother had a hard time waking up my sister than me, for school.
"I'm a little tired, so I'm just going to sleep", I whisper, yet again. Karthik nods at me before turning back to the TV, pulling Shraddha closer to him, if that's even possible. I soundlessly retire to my room, not wanting to disturb either of them.
Just as I'm about to get into bed, I see my phone light up with a new notification. It's a text message from Vikram. As cliché as it sounds, I almost feel my heart beat faster as I pick up my phone. I try not to smile like a love-sick idiot when I open his message.
Vikram : Try not to think about me too much, tonight.
Me: That won't be a problem, don't worry.
I get under the blanket before pulling it up to my chin.
Vikram: Then you wouldn't mind if I said I can't stop thinking about you?
This bitch!
He knows it'll make me melt when he says stuff like that.
Vikram: You know, I expected you to say "I can't stop thinking about you either, Vikram", or something like that. But the silence feels great.
Me: Sorry to disappoint.
That's what I text him because I don't know what to text him without sounding stupid. These words come easily to him and I'm left searching for words to let him know I feel the same. And I'm a Literature major, for god's sake.
Before I can text him anything else, my phone rings and his name flashes on the screen. I take a deep breath to calm my stupid beating heart, before taking the call.
"I wanted to talk to you and texting is not enough. Actually, just calling is not enough either, but I'll take what I can get", he says.
"You're so poetic these days", I tell him through a defiant smile.
"Of course, I am! I'm trying to woo the girl of my dreams. And she's a Literature major, so anything less than poetic is not acceptable", he says.
"You're ridiculous", I tell him but I'm wondering if he can read minds.
"Only for you Meera, only for you", He says and I no longer try to contain my smile. It's a lost cause anyways.
"So you're telling me you've never try to woo anyone? And I'm supposed to believe you?", I ask him. I don't even know why I asked him that, I could whack my head on a wall. This is so embarassing. But maybe I just want to know that I'm special. I mean who doesn't want to hear that they're special, from someone they love? Wait, did I say love? I meant like, not love. It's way too early for love.
Yeah, I'm not fooling anyone, not even me, haha!
"If I tell you no, are you going to be mad?", he asks and I try to hide my disappointment as I say, "No, I'm not".
