December 3rd - Footprints in the snow

Fresh, white, beautiful snow
A lamppost in a wood aglow
Freshly fallen flakes caress her tongue
Snow bigger and whiter than she's ever seen
And knows without a doubt; each snowflake is unique
Glancing around she realizes she's alone
For the only set of footprints is her own
But she doesn't mind no not one little bit
For nothing so small could dampen her joyful spirit
Bright eyes and a smile as she stared up at the winter sky
But a gasp escaped dry lips, when she heard a noise nearby
A rustle behind a tree
Footsteps quick and swift
But Lucy soon realized;they were not human steps
And glancing at the forest floor again
Her footprints were not the only set
These were big and round, almost like a goat's
For now poor Lucy didn't know what to do
Not a moment later a parcel fell
From behind the tree, where the creature stood still
Slowly and cautiously she inched her way forward
And very soon the creature came towards her
For he wasn't a goat and he wasn't a man
He was a faun; and a friendly one at that
She flashed a sweet smile and he gave a shy one
And Lucy returned the parcel to where it belonged
This poem has reached an end
But really it's only the beginning
For this is the story of how our dearest queen Lucy met her dearest best friend
Mr. Tumnus
