Without a second thought, we ran hurriedly with Mal0, she went ahead of me, pulling my arm tightly.
The white labyrinthine corridors never looked so scary.
We went in the opposite direction to some scientists who didn't even look twice at us.
We ran to the elevator, pressed the button to call it and just waited.
A loud static sound echoed from the speaker, making me jump on the spot.
-CODE WHITE, I REPEAT, CODE WHITE.
-STAFF ARE ADVISED TO EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY.
-Code white? -I repeated out loud.
-That hadn't happened the last time this happened.
-You've been through this before?! -Mal0 exclaimed.
-The first time the foundation took me. -I said, turning around and pressing the elevator button again.
-Oh...
-...
I felt vulnerable, standing here in the middle of the hallway, waiting for the elevator that never seemed to arrive.
The contact with Mal0's fur didn't feel so warm with the loud pounding of my heartbeat ringing in my ears.
-This place must have stairs, right? -I asked, turning to look at Mal0.
-Probably, I haven't seen any all the time I've been here. -She admitted, looking around.
-It would be better than standing here. -She added.
-Mhm.
-Maybe the elevators aren't working. -I said, pressing the button harder, as if it would change something.
-I don't know, but we should hurry. -She said, grabbing my arm again.
I nodded, running back along with Mal0.
We passed through several corridors, one identical to the other, they seemed to be repeating themselves endlessly.
We passed several office cubicles, completely empty of staff, their computer screens still on.
-Can't we get a map or something from here? -I asked, approaching one of them and standing in front of the desk.
Mal0 quickly approached and dematerialized instantly, without making a sound.
There were a few seconds of silence, in which I was looking around, searching for any sign of life.
I even searched through the desk drawers, finding only useless documents and papers.
-All the information here is encrypted, it will take some time to find what we want, if it even exists. -She said, appearing next to me.
-...
-Never mind, let's continue. -I sighed, shaking my head.
I hoped I could find some security personnel or someone similar, so they could guide us.
Before there were an exaggerated amount of soldiers, where are they now?
-We should go upstairs, right? -Said Mal0, pointing up the stairs to a catwalk, as we walked.
-Mhm.
We climbed the stairs to the catwalk that connected to a containment chamber, which was not ours.
Its reinforced steel doors wide open.
Whatever was in there was now roaming free, in any of the endless corridors of the foundation.
...
We decided not to probe where we shouldn't and returned as quickly and quietly as our feet would allow.
