I immediately bolted for the bathroom, hitting the edge of the couch on the way.

-One second! -I shouted as I looked over my shoulder.

I pulled a small first aid kit from behind the bathroom mirror and ran back into the living room.

-You should... You should clean that up now. -I said, having her follow me to the kitchen.

I turned on the cold water faucet and she moved her hand under it.
She had a cut on her pinky finger, just above her knuckle, which appeared to be somewhat deep, but not that large.

She breathed heavily through her teeth, but refrained from making any comment.

The wound was still bleeding, staining the water and dirty dishes on the sink an ominous red.

My stressed mind thought to disinfect the wound first, but with the amount of blood she was losing, I would have to stop the bleeding first.

With trembling hands I pulled a gauze from the first aid kit, cut it tightly and pressed it against her wound.

Mia pressed the gauze against her cut as I turned around to see the paper knife on the table.

It looked totally harmless except for the blood on the tip of its slightly crumpled blade.

-Quentin.

I turned back to look at Mia, the gauze in her hand completely filled with blood and some of it sliding down her arm.

-You have to go to the hospital. -I said, walking toward her, not taking my eyes off her injury.

She looked at me with some panic on her expression as she shook her head.

-It's just a cut.
-Not a big deal.

-Mia!
-...

Arguing would be useless knowing how stubborn she is.

It seemed I was more nervous than Mia, my brain working at twice its capacity trying to stop the bleeding.

I thought of gluing her cut back together but quickly scratched the idea.

An idea finally clicked in my head and I immediately opened a kitchen cupboard and pulled out a jar of sugar.

-Sugar?! -she said, confused.

I took Mia's hand, poured some sugar over her cut and put another clean piece of gauze on it.

-It helps to close the wounds, it's a coagulant, or something like that.
-I explained, applying pressure on her cut.

-I don't...
-How do you know that?

-It's embarrassing, but...
-...
-Mom and I went on a picnic one day, and I fell off my bike. -I said a little embarrassed.
-I fell on a rock, and since we didn't have anything to treat it on the spot, she put some sugar on me.

-Oh...
-I didn't know that, haha. -She laughed as she leaned her body against the kitchen counter, supporting himself with her free hand.

I hadn't taken my eyes off her hand, seeing if it was still bleeding through the gauze.

Mia was slowly sliding down the kitchen counter when I saw her, and I quickly tugged on her arm a little.

-Don't sit down on the floor.... -I said, helping her back on her feet.

-Sorry, I got kinda dizzy.

I walked her over to the couch, where she sat down and propped herself up on a pillow.

-I still think you should go to a doctor. -I added, looking at her awfully bandaged cut.

-Don't worry. -She shook his head.
-It's not like I want to go either. She added.
