Warning: This is one of my worst chapters to date, I won't judge you if you decide not to read it.

______________________________

My name is Quentin Burnett, I stumbled across an anomaly, and for the past five years I've worked for a secret organization capturing, identifying, and transporting anomalies under the noses of the entire society.

All of this while attending college, working, and dealing with myself.

And sometimes, I needed a little break from it all.

On weekends, I used to spend most of my time playing video games and hanging out with Mal0 in my apartment.

But not today.

I was walking down the street, choosing a song from my playlist, heading to one of Mal0's favorite food joints.

Money wasn't an issue for me right now, but I didn't like being lazy and paying for deliveries when I could easily go myself.

A light rain fell on me, it was one of those days where it wasn't cold enough for people to stay inside all day, but it seemed like the weather had other plans.

It didn't bother me though, I kept walking at my own pace while I looked around, seeing how other people hurried their steps, or opened their umbrellas.

(I would never use an umbrella.) -I thought, with a small smile forming on my face.

I finally got there, a little cafe, a hole in the wall.

Mal0 had discovered this place by chance, and since then we went from time to time since it was not that far from campus.

I pushed open the door, stepping inside with a little bell jingle.
I was a little embarrassed to enter completely soaked, maybe I shouldn't have walked in the rain.

The small place smelled of coffee and food, a small respite from that smell of wet pavement and gasoline.

As I approached the counter, I took a quick look around the place.
It looked cozy, but there didn't seem to be a lot of clientele, which was kind of weird, on a day like this.

Looking at the sign behind the counter, I could see dozens of cafe names, one with more words than the last.

I didn't care a single bit, most tasted the same.

-Hello! -Saluted the girl behind the counter, with a professional smile.

-Ah hello.
-Could I ask you for a...

I looked at the sign, trying to find any names that sounded familiar, but really they all looked the same.

-Could I ask you for a latte? -I said, after thinking about it for a while.

-Of course, anything else?

-Oh, and two muffins, please. -I said, pointing at them in the display case.

-It would be 6.50. -She said, after marking the price on the cash register.

After paying, the girl said that she would take the order to my table so I decided to sit in one of the seats in the back.

I left my phone on the table, and one of my earphones in my ear, in case Mal0 wanted to talk to me.

While I waited, I looked out the window, watching as people walked past the cafeteria without even paying attention.

Seeing so many people together made me feel a bit insignificant, like I was a secondary character in their lives.
