I feel I need to clarify a few things before this chapter begins.

This was an extra made in collaboration with Captain_R3negade.

I would recommend that you read his story "Scars Bleed Gold" before reading this chapter.

You don't need to have previous knowledge of his characters to understand this work, though I personally recommend it.

I hope you like it.

The trip was extremely long, I could see how the dull gray of the buildings were slowly replaced by green fields as we left the city.

Luckily, the foundation vehicle was air conditioned, the sun outside seemed to burn everything it touched.

-Are we there yet? -Mal0 asked, averting her gaze from the window.

-...
-About a quarter of an hour. -The man muttered, not taking his eyes off the road.

Mal0 sighed as she went back into my phone.

-Aww, I forgot about the cookies! -She exclaimed, her voice coming out of the phone speakers.

-It's okay.
-I kind of forgot you could do this, so thank you.

-You don't have to thank me. -She said, shortly before appearing with a bottle of water in her hands.

She offered it to me, and I quickly accepted.

-It feels like a video game inventory, doesn't it? -She said, thoughtfully.

I had a hard time not choking on my water.

-Y-Yeah. -I admitted.

It felt weird, being able to carry a lot of things just using my phone storage.

Mal0 could store a lot of objects and stuff inside my phone, though they still occupied some space in my storage.

-I brought some food and some other stuff, just in case we needed it.

-Thank you. -I nodded, looking back at the car window.

This mission, assignment or whatever it was, was important for Mal0, so I shouldn't mess this up.

I wondered what kind of anomaly we were dealing with.

If it was a digital anomaly like Mal0, wouldn't it be able to just run away?

Maybe it didn't have a physical body like her, like at the beginning.

We didn't have any way of knowing so we would just have to improvise, just like we always did.

I was beginning to doze off, but I heard the driver mutter something under his breath.

-You two awake? -He asked, looking at the rear view mirror, visibly concerned.

-Yea--

-We're being followed, you better lay low. -He said, adjusting the mirror.

I quickly crouched into the space between the car seats, at the same time Mal0 dematerialized.

-Shit...
-Listen, I don't know how many of them there are, but we are clearly outnumbered.
-I'll distract them so you can hide, but you will have to get out of the car.
