Four months and three weeks. I've been in Isla De Fuego for that long.
"Thank you for coming here. We hope you'll come back," saad niya at may malaking ngiti sa mukha niya.
I know making a decision about this is hard. I know I have responsibilities as a hotel owner and one of the stock holder at Rogue's company, but staying here in the island made me realize things.
"Hey," he called.
"Yes? Bakit?" I answered.
Care to share?"
It always worry me when you look like that.
"I'm fine. Now, why don't we head to the market? ‘Di ba ipagluluto kita ng lunch?"
"Oh right. Let's go, I'm excited!"
He intertwined our fingers and we headed to the market. Yes, we're staying in a single cabin.
He never pressured me about sex and although we did it once in his mansion, he never made me feel like we have to do it all the time. He makes me happy.
He planted tiny kisses on my nape and leaned his forehead on my shoulder. Natutuwang itinuloy ko ang ginagawa ko.
"You're getting better in the kitchen," he said.
"Do you see yourself doing this in the future?"
"Making meals for you?"
"Well, kind of. I mean, hindi lang para sa akin. I mean making meals for our family?"
Nagulat ako sa tanong niya. "Family?"
"Yes. You know, hindi naman siguro masama kung magkaroon tayo ng anak kahit isa lang."
"Anak? Are you sure about that?"
"Mm-hmm..." he nipped my shoulder blade. "I know a child is a big responsibility, but one child wouldn't be much of a trouble right? You know, we could raise her here in the island. You could make meals for us and take care of him or her, and I could work for our expenses. ‘Di ba ang ganda n'on? Magiging masayang pamilya tayo."
Raise the child in this island? I'm not even sure if could stay here longer than six months. Bigla akong nanghina.
"Let's see, Hugo.
Because I'm not sure if we can continue our lives together after a few weeks.
I think one of his employees is calling.
"Hello, Rita?" He put it into loud speaker so I could hear it.
"Good noon, sir Alonso. You're father called from Spain."
"Really? What did he say?"
"He said you have an important visitor arriving tomorrow."
Nagkatinginan kami. "Who?"
"Hindi niya sinabi, Sir. But he did say na importante ang taong 'yon."
He sighed then shook his head.
"Do you need my help with that?" he asked me.
"No, I can manage."
"Okay. Doon muna ako sa sala. I'll watch the football game replay from last night."
"Sige. I'll call you when lunch is ready."
With that, he went to the living room. I prepared the table while waiting for the fish to simmer.
"You scared me!" nakangiting sabi niya.
Anyway, lunch is ready."
"Oh, I'm just gonna finish this game. Ten minutes na lang at matatapos na. Is it okay with you?"
Tumango ako at kumandong sa kaniya. "Sure. Sabay na tayong pumunta roon later."
He hugged me and went back on watching the game. He hugged my waist and played with my hand, but kept his attention to the screen. Napangiti ako habang nakatitig sa mukha niya.
Kahit busy sa ibang bagay si Hugo, he never forgets to make me feel good. His attention is on me, and it makes me happy. This man I'm with right now, he made me realize a lot of things. He made me happy and that is the best thing that happened on this island...
but alas, happiness is always short-lived. It's like the calm before the chaos.
