~~~Catherine's pov~~~
After only thirty minutes, I finally picked out a comfortable outfit. I think that might be personal record, to be honest...
It was a white tank top, red flannel, and skinny jeans with sneakers. I did my hair in a simple fishtail braid on the side.
Cute, right?
Right?!
I've never been this nervous in my life before! Why am I acting like this? It's just Loki!
I sat at the edge of my bed and stared at the clock, waiting for it to go from 8:59 to 9:00.
The next few seconds felt like an eternity.
I shook my leg, waiting anxiously.
Come on! One minute is just sixty seconds! Sixty seconds doesn't take this long!
And........YES! 9:00!
Without wasting a second, I teleported to the lounge, where Loki told me to meet him.
"You came. I wasn't sure you would."
I turned and saw the god in question standing a few feet behind me.
"And why wouldn't I?" I asked, walking toward him.
He shrugged. "It's not often someone does something they told me they'd do."
"Yeah, I know the feeling." I sighed, definitely able to relate. "So what are we doing?" I attempted to change the subject.
"Do you trust me?" He asked, holding his hand out.
I was confused by his question because the answer was obvious.
"Is that even a question? You've saved my life at least five times in the last two weeks. I think my trust is implied." I answered honestly, grabbing his hand.
As soon as our hands touched, we were taken to a different place altogether. A forest, to be specific.
It was absolutely gorgeous! The night sky was dark and clear, allowing me to see the millions of stars littering the small clearing of trees. The temperature was cool but not too chilly, and the sound of crickets floated through the air.
"Loki, this is...beautiful!" I smiled, this being the happiest I had been in a long time.
"It certainly is." He said quietly, looking at me.
I failed to hide the blush that was the result of probably the nicest thing anyone had ever said to me.
This was turning into a great night.
The following two hours consisted of talking and looking up at the stars.
"Before, you said you know how it feels to be let down. What did you mean by that?" He asked after we had been sitting in comfortable silence for a few minutes.
"Well, when I was younger, my dad was never really around. There were days I never saw him. Sometimes days turned into weeks. He changed, though, after he came back from Afghanistan. He was around more, and we spent a lot more time together, but there were always exceptions. The Christmases when he disappeared without notice, or the times he missed my birthdays. Let's say I'm used to disappointment by now." I explained, with a hint of sadness in my voice.
He looked at me sympathetically. "You two seem to have a good relationship. What changed?"
"Everything. After Hydra took me and he got me back, he tried to spend as much time with me as possible. He knew I needed a lot of support after what happened." Talking about it helped.
