~~~Catherine's pov~~~
I awoke a few hours later at the sound of a knock coming from the door to the med bay.
Sitting up groggily, I noticed that Loki was asleep in the chair beside me.
It was kind of odd, considering he only ever sleeps in an unsecured place when he uses too much magic and he seemed to be fine when I woke up the first time...
I shrugged it off and turned my attention back to the door. "Come in."
"Hey, Catherine." Rhodey stepped into the med bay with a smile. "Good to see you back."
"Rhodey!" I grinned, trying to keep my voice quiet as to not wake the sleeping god next to me. "I haven't seen you in forever! How've you been?" I hadn't seen him since... Well, since the fight in Germany two years ago.
"Pretty good." He nodded, remaining in the doorway. "You know, I feel bad about how we left things and I wanted to thank you."
I furrowed my brows. "Thank me? For what?"
"Oh, well, let's see. You used your magic to prevent me from hitting the ground at 100 mph in a metal can and saved my life." He raised a brow and crossed his arms.
"What was I supposed to do?" I asked playfully. "If something happened to you, my dad would be all mopey because he wouldn't have his best friend to annoy all the time."
He chuckled. "True, true. So, you and Loki?" He gestured to my sleeping husband. "Don't worry, your dad told me everything." He added quickly.
"Yep." I smiled. "It's been an eventful two years, to say the least. And speaking of my dad, did he say when he was getting back? I really want to talk to him and Pepper."
I haven't seen either of my parents in months and I missed them.
And I know that Pepper isn't biologically my mother, but she's the closest thing I have to one.
Rhodey looked to the ground momentarily before looking back up at me hesitantly. "Uh, Catheine, Tony might not be back for awhile..." He trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
"What do you mean?" His choice of words and the tone of his voice was beginning to worry me.
He sighed reluctantly, but eventually answered. "There was an issue downtown, and as it turns out, he is now in space, along with Spider-Man and some wizard guy..."
Uhhhhh.....
I let out a small chuckle at his words. "I'm sorry, I thought you just said he was in space. Must not be fully recovered yet."
He didn't laugh though, and that's when I realized that he was being serious.
"Space?!" I exploded, completely dumbfounded. "What do you mean, he's in space?!"
Why the hell is my dad in space?!
"There was an alien spaceship and he followed it out of orbit when Spider-Man and the wizard guy were beamed up." He explained as if that covered everything.
I had about three thousand more questions, but was cut off when a loud beep sounded throughout the compound.
Rhodey's eyes widened and he bolted for the door, but quickly turned back to me for a half second. "Okay, so that's the conference call. Whatever you do, don't leave this room. Ross is holo-calling in and if he sees you or Loki, we're all done for." And then he left.
Hold up, Ross?!
Oh, f*ck no.
