"That went perfect," Eric muttered, lightly pushing me inside his apartment.
I staggered towards his couch and sat down on the edge. Eric disappeared inside what I assumed was his kitchen then returned with a brown bottle. The cap was off and he was taking a long drink.
"What do I do now?" I asked softly, without meeting his eyes.
He came to stand in front of me, the back of his hand unexpectedly caressing my left cheek. I flinched but didn't pull away, in fear of him hitting me again.
"You stay with me until we're due to Amity," he murmured then dropped his hand.
I rubbed my arm nervously and kept looking down.
"Why are you so nervous?"
I wasn't nervous. I was scared.
"Can I go lay down, please?" I asked softly, keeping my eyes glued to my knees.
"Why?" he snapped.
I jumped a bit but still wouldn't look up at him.
"I just need to lay down and rest." I whispered.
"Fine. You'll be staying with me in my room."
He took me by the arm and hauled me to my feet. He wasn't as rough taking me to his room, but he wasn't gentle either. The room was a bit hot and stuffy, a cool breeze often drifting in through an opened window.
"I'll be out in the living room, just call if you need anything."
Eric was gone and I was left to do nothing. I couldn't have gone back out there and lied again. I especially didn't want to be in the same room as him. So I took to quietly looking around the room, picking things up in the process. I found that he had books—lots of them. Thick folders filled with papers and other random stuff I found no interest in. I wandered into his bathroom and found it exceptionally clean, not a speck of dirt anywhere.
There goes a good perk to marrying him.
I rolled my eyes and crossed over to stand in front his mirror, which was a medicine cabinet. Like every other person, curiosity got the best of me and I opened one of the mirrored doors. There were medicine bottles, a tube of toothpaste, and other things I briefly glanced over. Then, my eyes caught sight of a medium-sized box. I mindlessly took it into my hands and opened it, looking inside to see what was in there. I only saw small, silver packages. When I pulled one out I saw the outline of a circle.
"I thought you were tired," Eric called loudly.
I dropped the box and the silver package I held then turned to him. My face drained as I saw him leaning against the doorway but he looked amused.
"S—Sorry," I stuttered and quickly got to picking up what I'd dropped.
They all were the same, a silver package with the same outline of a circle. My hands trembled as I placed them back inside the box. I quickly glanced up at him, and saw him smirking.
