"My father."
I instantly snuggled closer to Eric, taking my hand away from his back. But it wasn't his answer that made me do that. The way he said it was the actual reason. His usual husky voice sounded agonizingly painful. There were cracks in his voice, and I felt the way his arm tightened around me. It was like he was protecting me.
"Eric. ." I breathed out, pulling his arm off me.
My instinct was to sit up, and try comforting him, but he stopped me. He sat up in seconds, pinning me back down. His left hand gripped my waist, while the other came down next to my head. I shuddered as he dipped his head, lips against my ear.
"No," he growled. "I don't need any pity."
"I wasn't giving you any," I blurted, a dragging silence following after.
Eric chuckled. "Are you talking back?"
His lips were still pressed to my ear, and all I felt was his warm breath. My stomach gave a small jolt but I didn't want to show any weakness.
"Yes, but only because I was explaining myself."
"Did I ask for you to explain yourself?" he questioned lowly.
I gulped. "No."
"Exactly."
I thought he'd go off on me but he took me by surprise. Eric moved his lips down along my jaw, softly kissing the skin. He slowly trailed them down my neck, then that was when he latched onto my skin. Through the euphoria I was unexpectedly experiencing, I realized it was the same spot from the previous three days. The love bite had started fading but now he was bringing it back to how it was. That only meant I had to try my best to hide it again, especially from my mother.
"My father was a very angry man," he murmured, breaking free of my skin.
I held back a groan, and instead trailed my hands around his torso then up his back. The same tension came from him but he slowly relaxed. His head still hid, and I felt his swallow breathing against my neck.
"Tell me more, please," I whispered, sweeping my fingertips up and down.
That earned me a shudder from him. I smiled, knowing I was slowly gaining a sort of trust from him.
"Why?"
I sighed. "Please, Eric. I want to know more about you, including the hardships you went through."
Eric chuckled again then dragged himself off me. My hands urgently reached out, hoping to keep him close, but it was too late. I quickly sat up, waiting to see what he was going to do.
"Hardships? This isn't therapy, Penny," Eric sneered, rolling out of bed.
I saw that he still wore his jeans, but was in the process of removing them. The room was slowly darkening but the moon had appeared, casting its light through the window.
