THIRD PERSON POV
—
ONE MONTH AND A HALF AGOA smile spread across Penelope's lips, her mind taking her back to the previous night. The blissful memories made her skin tingle, the sensation running down to her most intimate parts. It was quite embarrassing for her to hold that intimate feeling but it was inevitable. She was happy with how things were working out, a brighter outlook into their future together.
They were happy, and that only strengthened the promised peace between Dauntless and Amity. The approaching Choosing Day would only substantiate that promised peace between both factions. Penelope and Eric simply had the small task of keeping each other happy. She didn't wish for anything from the early days of their engagement to repeat itself. The misery she went through was enough, and the most she could've possibly endured.
She also had to do the easy part of listening to Eric, and hopefully be able to avoid his unpredictable changes. Those changes were another key aspect to their bitter days. They couldn't have been seen, even for miles, and they came like a sudden storm. His brooding rage poured down on her, leaving her to fear for her safety. It was just about keeping him happy, and that unexpected storm would never return.
"So how's married life, Missus Agrippa?"
Penelope blinked rapidly as Marisol's voice brought her back, but especially what she called her. That was the first person to use Penelope's new last name, justifying that there would be no more 'Miss Odysseus'.
"You okay there, Penelope?" Marisol asked, stepping in front of Penelope.
Penelope sat on an identical hospital bed but in a different room. That one held a strong smell of rubbing alcohol yet it went well with the sterile appearance of the small room. The one difference was a rectangular-shaped window to the far right.
"Yeah, sorry, I was just in my own little world. I've just had a long day."
Marisol breathed out through her nose, rolling her eyes as she left the spot she stood at.
"Tell me about it. There's still a while before initiation begins, but I can already imagine how busy we're going to be during the first stage. Those poor transfers are going to be spending a lot of time here. ."
She drifted off as she began collecting what she needed. Penelope just watched her movements, thinking of what Marisol had said. There were still days when Penelope wondered how her initiation would've been like if she had transferred.
"You didn't answer my earlier question," Marisol said, turning sharply with all the tools she needed.
"Sorry, all I caught onto was the Missus Agrippa part."
Marisol laughed softly. "You're fine, but I asked how married life was."
Penelope shrugged, her eyes shifting down to the pink slip she held in her hands. The soft paper had wrinkled with every passing second that she held on to it tightly. It had the date of her appointment written down in perfect cursive, and her new name: Penelope Agrippa.
