BY the time Eric made his way back to Penelope's room later that same night, with the promise he made earlier, she was no longer there. The medical equipment had been moved around and turned off. Everything was cleaned, and Penelope's bed was made. There was no one in the room but Eric.

Many possibilities raced through his mind, and they all dealt with mind-boggling scenarios. He tensed at the thought of something terrible having happened to Penelope. His hands clenched tightly, a sickening rush of adrenaline kicking in. Eric could feel his heart rapidly beating inside his chest, heavy breaths echoing around him in the empty room.

He sprinted out of there, racing towards Marisol's office where he hoped he could find her. It was just a matter of minutes, less with how fast he was going, but he got there, bursting through the closed door.

"Oh, my god, Eric!" Marisol screeched, jumping out of her chair. "What the hell is going on now?!"

"Where is she, Marisol?! Where the hell is Penelope?!" Eric demanded, slightly winded. "I went to her room to try and find her, but I find the place fucking empty!"

Marisol was still in shock, a ghastly look in her green eyes. "Sh—She was dismissed a couple hours after you left," she finally blurted.

"Dismissed? What do you mean she was dismissed? How could you possibly let her go when you knew she would be alone in the apartment? I left it a fucking wreck, Marisol!"

"Her father asked to take her," Marisol began, walking out from behind her desk. "She'd already been here for three days, Eric, and it was time she got out of that room, don't you think?"

Eric froze for a moment, his eyebrows scrunched together as he bit the inside of his cheek. Penelope was gone. She was no longer in the infirmary.

"Where did Henry take her?" Eric asked softly, his eyes darting to the floor. "Did he take her away. .to Amity?"

Marisol sighed loudly, one of her hands planting itself over her chest. She moved closer towards Eric, placing that same hand on his right arm.

"No, Eric," she answered calmly. "But he did take her to some penthouse he said they stayed at during their first visit to Dauntless months ago."

Eric looked up at her, meeting her eyes with a hopeful gleam in his own. He unexpectedly pulled Marisol into a bone-crushing hug, her hands clinging to his shirt as she gasped in shock. Eric buried his face in her fiery-red hair, a heavy sigh slipping past his lips. Penelope wasn't gone just yet.

"Thank you," Eric mumbled, squeezing her even more. "Thank you so much."

Marisol stumbled back as soon as Eric let her go, shooting her the best half-smile he could bring himself to showcase. He was out of there in a heartbeat, sprinting once again. Eric knew exactly where to go and find Penelope, but he was beginning to wonder if Henry would be opposed to Eric's unexpected visit. There had to be a reason for Henry taking Penelope to that penthouse, like he was keeping her from Eric.
