ERIC'S POV
I didn't know what to do with it all. We were perfectly fine not even three weeks ago, then the real problem came. A problem I couldn't get rid of. But she hadn't seen it as a problem. Penelope was happy for the baby.
Our baby.
"Are you feeling better, Eric?"
I blinked rapidly, looking down at Penelope's mother. She had set a glass of water on the table, offering me a seat.
"Oh, yes, Penny's been taking good care of me for the past two months," I answered.
I sat down and looked over my shoulder, finding Penelope making her way towards me. She wore a small smile, but I could see that I had taken her by surprise.
"That's just great," her mother gushed. "You've been taking care of her, and she's done the same for you."
She rushed to Penelope's side and grabbed both her hands. They spoke to each other in hushed voices, both smiling at each other. I already knew what they were talking about without a doubt. Soon after, I saw as she placed a hand over Penelope's stomach. I glanced up at her, seeing her fearful eyes meeting my own. Despite the decision she had made weeks ago, Penelope had been cautious, hiding the clear excitement she was beginning to feel.
"Did she show you the sonogram yet?" I asked, turning to be able to look at them better.
"You have a sonogram?" her mother asked, clearly delighted.
"She carries it everywhere, not once setting it down to eat or even sleep," I commented.
That was a bit of an exaggeration but I knew Penelope wouldn't argue against it. She knew that I was well aware of how often she looked over that sonogram. I'd caught her with it a handful of times but she always pretended like she was merely looking it over.
She was already in love with it.
"It's in my purse upstairs," Penelope mumbled shyly. "Would you like to see it?"
"Oh, of course, sweetie!" her mother exclaimed.
Penelope looked over at me with rosy cheeks, clearly embarrassed, and smiled so sweetly.
"We'll be right back," she said.
She grabbed her mother's hand and they both hurried out, their stomping footsteps heard soon after. There was no mistake how happy everything was making Penelope, even if things started a little shaky. None of it was planned, just the unexpected, but she took it better than I did. I still hadn't understood what to do, but I was trying. For her sake.
"Good, Eric. I need to speak with you."
Henry appeared out of nowhere, marching towards me and patting my good shoulder. He ambled past me, yet it was clear that I had to get up and follow him. We walked through the living room, stopping in front of a door directly across from the opened front door.
