I immediately rushed to my feet, backing away from him. His hands were out in front of him, like he was surrendering. My eyes widened in horror, because to me, it was like he was reaching out to touch me.

"Eric!" I shrieked, knowing he was somewhere close.

"Penelope," he started, walking towards me. "Penelope, please. ."

I took more steps back and away from him, my heart accelerating. He was right in front of my eyes, trying to reason something. He looked the same from the last time I saw him, but there was the addition of heavy bags under his eyes and growing stubble.

"No. .No," I mumbled to myself, looking down at the ground. "This—This can't be happening."

"Penelope, I'm sorry, please," he continued, stepping closer to me.

My eyes didn't leave the ground but I saw his nearing feet. I quickly stepped back, away from a possible disaster.

"Pen—"

He was cut off. "Penelope!" It was Eric.

I spun around and rushed to him, wrapping my arms around his torso.

"Eric, take me home," I pleaded. "Please."

Eric wrapped his arms around me, in a protective manner.

"What happened here?" he demanded, spitting his words out at Charlie.

"Nothing," Charlie answered truthfully. "She just ran into me and fell."

Eric looked down at me, his hands holding my face up to him. His blue eyes were clouded with worry and anger. Anger towards me or Charlie?

"You're okay, Penny?" he murmured softly.

I nodded, placing my head against his chest again.

"Just take me home, please."

"Okay, sweetheart. ." Was all he said, before hurriedly getting me away from Charlie.

When he opened the door to our apartment, minutes later, I rushed inside. I proceeded to sprint towards our bedroom, ignoring his hand as it made an attempt to grab me.

"Penelope," Eric called out severely.

I flinched but made it to the bed, which had fresh, clean sheets.

"I did nothing wrong, Eric," I countered, feeling guilty for some apparent reason.

"Then why are you running from me?!" he boomed.

I cringed, burying my face in the pillows and curling up. My dress was probably a disheveled mess, showing off my underwear but I couldn't care less. I was more frightened at the mess I somehow caused.

"Answer me!" he bellowed, his voice bouncing off the walls.

"I—I was scared of your reaction," I answered quietly, my voice wavering.
