There were only two bedrooms in the cabin, so I figured that we would allow the girls one of them and the littles would get the other.
But unfortunately, not everyone was happy with that idea.
"Absolutely not, I am not sharing a room with her." Melissa protested angrily.
"Its just for one night, Mel." Johnny said softly as he tried talking some sense into his sister.
"I don't care if its just for an hour, I'm not doing it."
"Melissa, this isn't a choice; we are telling you." I said sternly. "You two need to learn to get along, if we all want to survive this; and I for one am sick of hearing your bickering."
"So that's your plan?" Amber said from the leather sofa. "To force us alone together to do what? Kill each other? Fuck that."
"We want you to work out your differences, so we can all work together as a unit instead of arguing all the time." I answered honestly. "She's not going to kill you, Amber."
"How do you know that I'm not?" Melissa asked with an evil grin. "We would be better off without her anyway."
"Melissa, if you kill her than you are no better than them."
"Than who?"
"Than the crawlers outside, than the men that did that to them...you would be worse than them."
"How do you figure that, Sarge?" Mel asked as she stepped closer to me. "They killed innocent people for nothing, I would be doing us all a favor."
"No, you would be doing yourself a favor because you don't like her...not us." I said as I pointed a finger into her chest.
"You don't like her either, Sarge; neither does Johnny." Melissa said standing her ground.
"That doesn't mean that we want her dead, now does it."
"Johnny, was the one that told me that I should join you in the first place." Amber said, not helping the situation.
"I only did that because I thought you wouldn't constantly complain about us not feeding you and you arguing with my sister over something that doesn't even matter now, face it Amber, you're not special...we are all hungry and tired; so can you two please get along for one fucking night, before I lose my fucking mind." Johnny pleaded.
Melissa and Amber looked at him for a moment, before looking away and to the floor.
"Come on John Boy..." I said as I handed him a bottle. "You go feed Timmy and I will talk to them."
"I tried, Sarge." John said with a sad look in his eyes.
"I know you did son, they're just stubborn women." I said as I patted him on the shoulder. "Now go on, we don't want him to wake up and start crying again."
Johnny nodded, before looking at each woman again and headed up the stairs.
"I would have left you two alone to talk it out, but I'm better off down here to make sure you don't try to kill each other." I said before sitting down on the coffee table with a sleeping Lilly-Bella in my arms.
"There's nothing to talk out, Sarge...we don't like each other and never will." Melissa said with her arms crossed.
"Can you at least try to get to know one another, maybe you will find something that you have in common."
"What like 20 questions, no way in hell." Mel said before looking over to the door.
"Either that or I'll lock you both outside with the crawlers."
