"So when are you going to talk to her?" I asked Steven as we headed out on to the open road.
"Honestly Sarge...I don't know it I can." He answered solemnly.
"You have to Steven, because none of us are going to do it for you." I said sternly. "You're going to have to talk to her eventually."
"Can't I just wait until we get to her?" He asked pleadingly.
"Not unless you want her to throw you out." I answered, even though I doubted she would do something like that.
Shows how little you know Ally bug. - Steven
I wouldn't have thrown you out. - Andie
Yes you would...after you kicked my ass. - Steven
He's got you there babe. - Jesse
Aren't you supposed to be on my side? - Andie
Hey this is my chapter, so stay out of it! - Sarge
Sorry Sarge. - Jesse, Steven, and Andie
"I just don't want her to be mad at me." Steve said as he played with the bandage on his leg. "She's all I got."
"If you were living in a group home, how could you spend time with her?" I asked hoping that he would tell me more about their relationship.
"She talked one of her aunts into adopting me, so in a way she's my family." He answered softly. "They were truly loving people and so supportive of me when I came out, and if Ally wouldn't have done that I would have probably been living on the streets when I turned eighteen."
"You didn't have any family that could have taken you in?"
"No, but it wouldn't have mattered because they would have never treated me like I needed them to."
"How do you know that? I'm sure they would have loved you just as much."
"I met my family once, a few years back and let me tell ya that it was like being in the backwoods of Oklahoma...all rednecks."
"I don't see anything wrong with being a redneck, unless they were racist or something like that."
"I wouldn't know if they were, because I didn't stick around long enough to find out...I do know however that they didn't approve of my 'life style', like I fucking asked them for it to begin with."
"So you felt more at home with Andie and her family."
"Well her aunt and uncle already had three daughters, but they always wanted a son so I was a welcomed addition to their family." He sighed. "Andie made sure they knew abut my situation and they did everything possible to make me feel comfortable."
Although I wanted to press him harder, I also didn't want him to shut me out.
"You need to tell her Steve, if you want to remain best friends."
"Its not that simple...she won't listen to me after I tell her our friendship is over."
"The longer you go without telling her the more worried she will become...and I don't want her to think that it is because of us...we need her to trust us Steven."
"What are you going to do to her after we get there?"
"Ask her what she knows about the cure and figure out a way to save her and everyone else." I answered honestly, although I wasn't sure he believed me. "We're not the bad guys here Steve...The Director is."
"How can I trust that you are secretly working for him too?"
"Because the next time I see that man I'll put a bullet in his disgusting head and leave him to be feasted on by his Crawlers." I said with a scowl...how dare he suggest something as absurd as that.
