Chapter Nineteen
"And her facial expression was the best! Lord, she was all like- 'oh shit, what do I do now?'" Hannah belted out and we all cracked into a fit of laughter. After the game we decided to take a walk around the familiar high school to relive old memories and create new ones.
I think all the boys are drooling at the school's design as we walk onto the football field and music suddenly blasts from the speakers around us making us jump. The Knight's basketball team walks down the stairs and out on the field to meet us.
"Nicole, nice to see you again." A boy named Johnny on the team said. They slithered their way around us making me feel a little self-conscious. "Wish I could say the same for you." I mumbled. San Marcos High School was a little different from Granbury's small high school.
Everybody here in California always gets a power trip when they either have a lot of money or are popular. There are many Hispanics here at SMHS and most of them make up the basketball and football team. In which most of them I went to school with for years.
They were always the ones to break out fights and get involved in the spice and marijuana problems. Johnny has had a grudge against me since eight grade when I embarrassed him in front of everyone for touching my butt and attempting to steal my phone.
"Good win, well it would've been if we weren't off our game so much today." Johnny said with a click of a chuckle. Ky moved forward, ready to kick his ass, but I stopped him with a slap in the chest. "News flash dumb-ass, the game was today and we beat you fair a square. Chew on it and walk away." I said, standing my ground with strength.
"Johnny, we are surprised that your growth spurt barely made you past five feet. Now, you've experienced Nicole's threats first hand at a small dose, and this one she won't hesitate to fulfill at a full dose." Hannah said without a doubt and crossed her arms across her chest.
Our team stands inches taller than theirs and probably much broader, but everybody knows Johnny just has a mouth that's too big for his tiny little head. He had scowled at me as I felt a sly smile tugging at my lips
"Now, now kids, I don't feel like getting in trouble for letting my team loose for a little while." The opposing team's coach said while walking out from the shadows. We call him Mr. Eagle because he seriously looks like a Bald Eagle, but I used to call him The Vulture since he picked on me.
It was occasionally accidental, but most of the time I had rounded the nickname up on purpose out of frustration, and now he hates me in particular. Although, it has never bothered me since I hate him right back.
He actually got the switch to coaching the boys' basketball team when he asked only because of me. I don't know if I should be feeling proud of myself like I am now, but when I had moved, I didn't waste any time with goodbyes to The Vulture.
"You mean you don't want them to embarrass you because, just like you, they have their heads in the clouds. You didn't seem to stop them from causing trouble on the court where you knew we couldn't react." Ky snarls as I watch his eyes grill down on the opposing team. Okay, he is going a bit far...
It was as if he and Mr. Eagle were having a stand-off, for I could swear I am seeing steam blow off both of their heads. As if god only likes to make matters worse for me, my Coach shows up, striding down the stairs with pride and a sudden smile.
He jogs down the stairs when he catchs Ky beginning to step into Mr. Eagle's face and almost jumps straight in front of his team as if to protect us. Hannah scowls at her ex-boyfriend, Will, whom I just gave the stink eye to. Will's short cut blonde hair gives him the good-boy look.
