Chapter Eleven

*Edited 6/28/18-6/29/18*

Our laughter surprisingly harmonized as a team. They treated me as, for once, something other than a girl! Our humor was even the same. I did get the most laughs, so I guess that immediately makes me the best on the team.

In my opinion.

Ky turned down the pedestal for once and shoved it my way as all the attention on the team turned to me. Everybody finally started growing close and I could feel the true meaning of a team as we all cracked jokes left and right.

I laughed at my own jokes feeling despair that I'm literally laughing at my own joke, but I didn't care. This team was what I need as soon as an empty feeling was beginning to fill a space where my old life used to be.

It has been a day since the team bonding, and I am spending my Sunday morning at the barn. I slumped down against a small shaded apple tree and put my backpack next to me. Freedom came and lied down next to me, resting her large head on my legs. "Horsey head." I muttered to myself as her head rested on me and made me tense up at how heavy she is.

"Ha, get it horsey... oh my fu-kill me please. I don't want to laugh at my own jokes. I'm lonely and Nicoley is in needy of a friendy." I complained to the sky, as if it could answer me. I swear it's like I smoked weed, yet at least Hannah understood this side of me.

She is the reason there is this side of me and she might be one of the only people who ever see it. Hannah is, hands down, my closest friend. I only feel comfortable acting so crazy around her and my parents.

I reached into my backpack, pulling out an apple. I took a bite then shoved the rest into Freedom's mouth. Her brown and black muzzle tickled my hand as she gladly took a bite. "I should exercise." I pulled myself up and Freedom was quick to follow.

I slid her bridle off, and tucked it into my backpack. I put on a lead instead before I started jogging so that she was at a slow trot, then worked my way up into a run, which she was still trotting because I am as slow as hell when I want to run.

I heard a whistle down by the barn.

Great, the owner's son. He's such a man-whore, every time I see him I literally cover up my butt with my flannel. God, I feel disgusted each time I see his eyes on me, I wish I could punch that smirk off his face.

"Nicole, why did you do that?" Alex took a step closer to me which I took back. I rolled Freedom so that she was in-between me and him. "Go away Alex, I'm trying really hard not to get into any trouble, and you're just asking to go out on a date with my fucking fist." I spat out at him.

He put his hands up in play surrender. My teeth grinded in frustration when he didn't leave. I looked over at his father's house and back at him. "I like you Nicole, you're an interesting girl." He reared around the other side of Freedom, so that we are standing on the same side.

"Can't you be a creep elsewhere?" I rolled my eyes at his testosterone and thought he would get the hint, but of course he didn't. He is the definition of a hick and a redneck creep. Alex carries around a shotgun like he knows how to shoot it.

There is nothing attractive about his dark muffled hair that is slightly shaven back into a mullet and his acne-exploded facial that makes you sick to your stomach every time he inches closer. And not to mention the fact that he smells like baths don't exist.

"I'd like to creep under that shirt of yours." He stalked closer and I accidentally fell back into Freedom, letting go of her lead. She takes off back into the field at a full sprint. My nostrils flare at Alex in rage and my fist immediately clenched.
