Chapter Nine

Ky P.O.V.

I ran down the hall looking over my shoulder to make sure nobody saw what just happened. I saw Nicole walk the opposite way I was going. I don't know what possessed me to do what I just did. I was just angered over how she treated me, yet normally I don't get so mad.

It has happened with Travis before and my family, but never with a stranger. I normally can outsmart a stranger and their remarks never bother me, with that, why did her words hurt so much? I began walking slowly as I trudged in late to my next class.

I ran through the doors to mechanics and took my seat next to Travis on the work bench. We immediately started building whatever was in front us without any questions in silence. Mechanics would have been my second go to choice if I didn't have basketball.

We had to work on a Ford Raptor, which I had easily passed the rest of my classmates and automatically started working on the car a few days ago. If someone goes to or has a family member at Granbury High, they can give a broken car to the mechanic class.

I worked on the truck and managed to fix its flat tire, with the help of Travis, within thirty minutes tops. Just as I was washing my hands off the bell rang and I was off to my next class. I suddenly remembered that my next period is lunch.

I groaned at the thought of socializing, so I told Travis that I'm going to the courts and headed out to the side of the school. He understands whenever I get in these moods, after all, he is my best friend.

I dropped my bag by the pole of the hoop and started dribbling the ball. It was suddenly like the world stopped spinning and all I needed to focus on now is the ball in my hands. Every corner of my vision blurred out and I closed my eyes thinking about my next move.

I spun around in a swift motion and pushed the ball up and out of my grasp. It's a strange feeling for me. Every conflict within my mind goes away in an instant and every inch on my mind if focused on the ball and the hoop.

I heard the swift 'swoosh' of the ball as it went through the hoop.

I kept my eyes closed and let out a breath that I didn't even know I was holding. My peace was cut off by the sound of sharp clapping near me. I opened my eyes and looked for the source. My eyes landed on Nicole sitting in the corner eating her lunch in shorts and a tank top.

"So is this what people meant by you actually meditate? I will admit it is a bit creepy." She started laughing at her own joke. I threw the ball at her and grabbed my bag. I slid down the wall next to her a pulled out my lunch of my bag.

Ham sandwich with honey mustard and jalapeño Cheetos. Sure, I should be eating healthy, but what can I say, these Cheetos are amazing. Nicole glanced at my lunch and her eyes landed on my Cheetos. A small snort exited her nose and she glanced over at her bag depressingly.

I thought about leaving for a moment, but something about her told me that she knew a piece of the argument I am having with myself.

"Whats wrong?" I asked her rolling my eyes. "Uh, what?" She looked back at me trying to cover up what she just did. "Trust me, I am quite the ladies man, and it isn't only because I am handsome." I smirked at her.

Her checks grew a little red and she laughed. "What are you laughing at?" I teased her. "You are fugly enough to be Shrek's brother." She laughed and took a bite of her apple. Suddenly my chest loosened at the fast beating of my worried heart.

"Hey, Shrek still gets the girl though, am I right?" I winked at her. "Ya but the girl is an ogre too, I don't think that helps....so I think my point has been proven." She sticks her tongue out at me. I can't believe she is acting like nothing happened earlier.
