Chapter Thirty
Nicole's P.O.V.
Great, April. Spring season. Practically everybody on the swim team is dating, including the freshmen. In fact, Olivia and Jackson practically have their hands all over each other any chance they get. Travis seems stoked only because he got an early acceptance into Cal Berkeley.
Honestly I never knew he was that smart but I guess he got there partly through a basketball scholarship and also through extra credits that he worked really hard to get. Hannah got the same early letter and now they've dedicated to setting up their Cali-college lives.
Travis got this new job at one of the car dealerships and he's actually making great money off of it. Hannah, I believe, is working at Barnes and Noble and I have never seen someone so happy to have such a job.
I actually quit my job at Stumpy's and then a few weeks later I got a new job from my parents, surprisingly. My dad told me that he may be deciding to retire within the next two years and my mom is deciding within the next year.
I'm really happy for them, because honestly, I get tired of seeing them glued to their desks twenty-four-seven. My dad bought a piece of land about fifteen minutes out because we were running out of space for our pontoon trailer.
A few weeks ago a friend that owed our family money, gave us a bass boat. So now we welcome in a new boat trailer to the family.
And then you have our kayak and Sea-Doo trailer. Recently, my idiot brother decided to buy two Polaris-Razors, so now we also have the really long four-wheeler's trailer. Don't get me wrong, they are really fun, it's just when a spider lands on my face, all fun comes to an end.
And now my dad is getting a shed built out on the fifteen acres for Freedom and my mom's new horse, Kod. He is a white Arabian with the tiniest brown dots along his back, he isn't super pretty, but he an interesting personality.
I actually invited Ky to bring Lightning down and to let him stay here instead of with the other horses since that is who Freedom got used to and maybe it'll help Kod get settled. So now I work on that land, cleaning, feeding, everything necessary, and I get money not from my parents.
We are letting people pay certain amounts of money to keep their trailers on our land with a small amount of shading so my family still makes an income from our purchase. Ky's the only person who doesn't have to pay truly.
Today's the day that he should be bringing down Lightning, so I have to get to the barn by ten this morning. Sadly, it is the last Saturday of Spring Break, but luckily school end next month. As I was on my way to the barn I stopped by Dunkin Donuts.
Even though Prom isn't for a month, kids are already asking each other out and, honestly, the ideas get dumber each day. I think the most creative one was where this guys asked a girl out by passing her a volleyball in the cafeteria and when she caught it, it had the words 'Prom?' on it.
I hate mushy gushy stuff. I hate watching Jackson struggle with ideas on how to ask Olivia and when I ask him if he would like hints or just a little bit of help, he shuts me down and tells me how he wants to come up with it himself.
It's interesting how happy he wants to make Olivia. I have never seen anybody try so hard. I'm planning just a fun party this upcoming Friday for my swim team to come over along with some of the basketball team. I think they'll get along great now, especially since Sam is gone.
