Chapter Thirty One

The hell did I get myself into? My dad is so going to kill me. But he was going to be mad either way, whether he found out the hard, or easy way. "Nicole, are you sure you don't want me to take you home?" Ky asked after being awfully quiet for a little while.

We had just arrived at the barn, and as I stomped my way up to the barn, I could tell he was questioning what was on my mind. I stopped as my hands reached the lock on the barn doors. I sighed and turned around to face Ky.

"My whole life I had told myself that dating was stupid and illogical. My dad was one of the reasons that I was so convinced on my own accountability and as soon as I go home, I know the scolding I'm bound to get by him and.

"I just want this moment with you to last so I can realiz-." I cut myself short.

I thought about my next choice of words but I simply began to screw it. "I was a fucking idiot before. I hated you because you were better than me and you had everything that I miss. You had friends that cared about you, and I mean Travis would do anything for you.

"And you had Kate, so when I saw how she looked at you I felt a pinch of jealousy. I guess I blamed you for it because I suppose my first taste of jealousy wasn't my most favorite thing in the world." I said and chuckled nervously.

"You know how most girls say, 'Oh I'm different from the others', but they really are just more annoying than the others?" Ky asked and I laughed with a nod of my head. "Never have I heard you say that once, but you most certainly stand out. You are different." He said and crept closer.

His voice turned soft as he cupped my cheek and bent down to my size. "Just go home and talk to them. You're at an appropriate age and I'm sure they'll be happy for you." He said and his smile was the only assurance that I needed.

I sighed in defeat and looked down at my shoes. "What college did you get into?" I asked with the question nipping at my heels. Surprised he raised an eyebrow and took a step back. "Tarleton." He said and looked down at his own shoes. I swallowed and felt my stomach churn.

"I got the letter this morning and I didn't want to disappoint you because I know you applied there as well." He said and brought his eyes back up to me. There was no way I could stay mad at those precious eyes of his.

"But you also applied to San Bernard and a few other colleges scattered in Texas and California. I'm sure they will all accept you." He said and took a step closer to me as I took one back with my brows furrowed in realization. "School is about to end." I stated.

"Yea. No more goddamn crowded hallways." He said and did as unbelievable chuckle that ticked me in the wrong way. "Don't you understand?" I screamed and clenched my fists. "If I go to California and we are together then..." I trailed off and let him figure out the situation. 

His eyes softened and he shook his head. "You could put trillions of miles between us and it wouldn't change how I feel about you." His voice was silky as though those were words he had practiced a trillion times.

"People in high school relationships blister as they get sent away to college. They hold on to the belief and hope that they will be together once the four years are over, but distance changes things. Plus, we won't have jobs together after college either." I stuttered with my words.

"Nicole, I want you to truly understand how I feel about you." He said and I closed my eyes. "You say that now but just wait. First comes at ease, but then you start feeling the pain and next you feel complete and utter anger." I explained and swallowed.

"I won't put you through it. And I'm going to stop this before I hurt you too far." I said and shook my head. "I'm sorry for kissing you." I said and felt a tear run down my cheek. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain on both my shoulders and I noticed Ky was squeezing them.
