Three months later
Harry's pov
After Louis and I found out that Jean could not be ours until we settled into a house I went back to school and took my test. I am now a legal veterinarian - Dr. Harry Edward Styles (It feels really good to officially say that). Then there was the problem of finding a house. After long discussions we had all decided if we all pitched in we could buy a two story home big enough for everyone. Louis and I had always wanted our own home, but at that time all we cared about was being able to have Jean. I was extra excited when I found out that there was a decent sized barn that I could easily turn into my veterinary practice. Come to find out, Louis knew all about it and kept my eyes blindfolded until we first arrived at the house. He walked me out to the barn and uncovered my eyes, I was confused at first until Louis whispered in my ear, "It's for you." My jaw literally dropped. "You always wanted a practice ran from home." Louis blushed and kissed my cheek. It took me about ten minutes to come out of my trance, but when I did I kissed Louis so hard that I thought my lips would fall off from the numbness. Everyone decided to give Louis and I the first night alone in the new house which resulted in plenty of sloppy kisses and sweat slick skin against each other that night.
Everyone loved the house. It was a quaint two story home painted a light tan color with white shutters and a wooden porch stretched across the front of the house. It was absolutely perfect. Of course, there was the plumbing that needed a little repairing, there were places on the roof that needed patching up, a few windows were busted, the shutters needed repainting...blah, blah, blah. Ok, it was a fixer upper; but it was ours. The house had five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and there was a spare office Louis and I decided could be turned into a bedroom when the kids got older. The house was surprisingly cheap for a house its size. When we asked the realtor, she would not tell us why. I did some research at the local library and found that the house had quite a history. It had been used for gang hideouts, drug busts had happened there, and supposedly the former resident died in the home. The person dying in the home kind of freaked me out because I had no idea how they died, but it did make me feel better when I found out the whole story. The secretary in the library told me the man who died was a very loving, sweet man but he was very old and passed away peacefully in his sleep. The library secretary reminded me strangely of my mother, she had long, brown hair with a strand of gray here and there and pretty green eyes. She spoke softly and was patient with everyone. She was an angel.
Louis and I created such a good relationship with Jean. We went once a week to Donald and Debby's house - she insisted we called her Debby - and we always took Matthew with us. Debby adored Matthew from the second she saw him. She would cuddle him, read to him, and keep him well fed on apple sauce and banana slices. We loved seeing Debby interact with Jean and Matthew because it showed us that Jean was given a good life in their home. And Jean has also loved Matthew since she saw him. They bonded so quickly and love each other so much already. Louis and I both cried the day she called Louis Daddy. It was totally unexpected. All three of us were on the floor coloring pictures together when Jean says to Louis, "Look, Daddy! My pictuwe pwetty?"
Louis paused to take in her words and with teary eyes he said, "Yes, baby, it's beautiful."
I wish that Jean could call me Dada. But I cannot tell her to around Debby because we cannot have them suspect anything. For now, she calls me Unca Hawwy. Her Rs come out sounding like Ws; it's so cute! I have known her for about three weeks and I love her so much; I think I started loving her when I first saw her picture, though. The crazy thing is, she seems like a balance between me and Louis. Her hair is curly like mine, and her eyes are ocean blue like his. She paces the floor when she thinks like me and her nose scrunches up when she's angry like Louis does sometimes. Louis says Jean and I both stick our tongues to the corners of our mouths when we concentrate. It is as if Jean was made specifically for us. Our baby girl.
It has been three months since we arrived here in Kansas. And since then, I was able to transfer my credits to a nearby college and test out, we were able to buy a house and have it in living condition, and Louis has already made appointments for job interviews. I wish I could say my vet's office has opened it's doors yet, but sadly, it has not. It may take me a few years to fully gather all I need to begin. So, I too have gotten appointments for interviews around town and am very exited about the future.
But right now, Louis and I are exited about today. Because today is the day we get to bring Jean home with us. Louis and I have been looking forward to this day for what seems like forever and it is finally here. We both wore our nicest attire, which were slightly worn black suits. I think we over dressed, but we were both so excited that we did not care. We walked up to Donald and Debby's door and rang the bell, eagerly awaiting to see Jean. The door opened and there stood Debby, "Oh, hello! Come in, come in!" She greeted us, "I bet you're both so excited!"
"Yes, very excited." Louis smiled.
"Well, Donald signed the papers this morning before he left for work." She told us, "So, let me go get Jean and," she stopped and tried not to tear up, "she's all yours." She smiled and left the room.
It was not long before we heard little footsteps stomping down the stairs and around the corner, "Daddy! Unca Hawwy!" She shouted and jumped into Louis's arms. Louis and I both wrapped our arms around each other, squeezing Jean between us. I saw Debby, out of the corner of my eye, dab her eyes with a handkerchief. I shed a tear as well as I kissed Jean's cheek.
"Are you ready to come home with us, darling?" I asked her. She nodded her head enthusiastically then laid her head on Louis's shoulder.
We finally had our baby girl.
