Chapter ten: The secret passage

"You're-" Jane started running towards you with big steps, her face blurry with realization.

You've only been waiting at the meeting point for a few short minutes. Supporting the walls of the big corridor, held together by large columns braided in gold that went up all the way and connected at the top, Loki eyed you and you eyed him back. Breaking the staring match, Thor's unmistakable footsteps bounced into your ears as a good kind of buzzing ran through your body. By his side strode Jane who at first looked vibrant and just mildly sick but as soon as she saw the two of you, her aura darkened over.

So now, she was hurrying your way with her fists clenched at her sides and her mouth angrily pursed in a thin line. You watched in fascination as the small woman arrived, thinking she was about to direct her rage towards you, only to be pleasantly surprised when in the last second instead of you, she stopped, staring Loki down.

"I am Loki, you may have heard of me- uhgf" He started as he lowered his gaze to meet her eyes but was cut short by a loud slap delivered by the small woman right to his high sitting cheekbones. His head bounced in your direction, his blues lingering for only a second before he turned back, smirking wildly.

"That was for New York." She said angrily.

"I like her." Loki almost purred, lips turning further up with his eyes materializing on Jane.

You chuckled to yourself at the scene, loud enough that Loki could hear it.

The news of your progressing plan must have gotten to the Allfather, because just as you witnessed this exchange, a hurricane of shouts accompanied by metallic clatter sounded up not far behind and soon you found yourself being charged at by a group of soldiers. Instinctively grabbing a hold of Loki's handcuffs, you started leading him after Jane and Thor who ran through a door, leading into an even bigger, more glorious corridor than the last.

You were stopped short by one of Thor's friends, Sif, if you guessed correctly from what Thor told you earlier, waiting in the middle of the red carpet. When you came to a stop before her you looked back to be met with the same soldiers closing in on you rapidly. A quick grateful stare from Thor and you were on your way again, running to escape... Or so you thought. As you and Loki were to slip past her, she stiffened and lifting her sword with the speed of light stopped Loki right in his track, therefore forcing you to a stop as well. God, you loved babysitting so much...

"Betray him, and I'll kill you." She warned in a low voice, the edge of her sword almost drawing blood from Loki's neck. Good thing it didn't because you were mildly disoriented already from the hunger you were experiencing.

Loki just smiled at her, slowly lowering his head to hide his suddenly exposed neck. "It's good to see you too, Sif."

After a short pause and a burning stare, she finally let him pass with a nod in your direction. By the time you caught up to Thor and Jane, Sif already began fighting off your attackers. Hurrying into yet another royal looking room, the breath almost got knocked from your lungs at the sight of a large space ship bedded in the torn up marble floor. For a moment you had to stop and take all this in. Truth be told, you've never encountered something like this before. Not the surprise of it, rather the actuality was what amazed you. The fact that Thor appeared to be traveling by that rainbow dust somehow seemed more believable to you than this giant, egg shaped ship.

But again, who were you to judge?

"Don't look so dumbstruck." Loki whispered from right beside your ear, making you jump slightly. The warmth of a chuckle spread your neck before he continued. "Makes you an easy target." The way his breathy voice had just a sparkle of his normal, smoky tone poking through caused your breath to pick up a fraction. And if you really concentrated you could hear his heart calmly pumping the blood through his veins and the rhythmic rising and falling of his chest that all of a sudden felt dangerously close to your back.
