Wake up, wake up, wake up.

The bright morning rays pried open Charlotte's eyes, bringing her into a brand new day. She checked her phone, 6.15am. It had become evident that she wasn't used to waking up this early in the morning. Back at her old school, her second home, whatever you call it, Charlotte enjoyed the sensation of having the freedom to meet different individuals, do things freely. Though she liked routine, she felt that Amaryllis high was similar to prison.

Snapping back to reality, she realised that her roommate Seo-jun had already started combing her long black hair, tidying her uniform with that notorious red Amaryllis badge on it.

"Your name's Charlotte, right?" Seo-jun asked curiously. Ah, Charlotte forgot to introduce herself the day before. She was just too exhausted, too fatigue, too homesick to remember.

"That's me. Care to show me around campus?" Charlotte tried her best not to yawn as she tried to converse with her.

"Alright Unnie, you should wear your uniform first before we head out. The teachers here are pretty strict about the uniform and hairdo."

"'Unnie'? What's that word?" Charlotte was a little confused. That didn't sound like English. Not to be prejudiced, but hearing a foreign language 5 minutes after waking up was a bit much for Charlotte.

"Seriously? It's Korean for addressing a female older than you. How clueless are you?" Seo-jun snapped.

"Geez, just let me get my uniform." Charlotte yawned, unfazed by Seo-jun's attitude. It seemed like her roommate was a little short-tempered, nothing new from public school though, the kids there were like barbaric animals. She quickly wore her monotone coloured uniform. Was there anything in the school with a bit of colour? Everything seemed so dull and boring here to Charlotte.

"I'm done, can we go now?" Charlotte asked, irritated by how tight the uniform felt on her. Charlotte felt Seo-jun's eyes study her head to toe before walking out the front door.

"What took you so long? Follow me."

The two girls headed down the spiral stairs, conversations that took place on the stairs could be heard as the sounds echoed down the stairs. Laughter, complains, everything. The stairs seemed like the hotspot for gossip and that piqued Charlotte's interest.

"So Charlotte, tell me more about yourself? Why did you transfer?" Seo-jun asked.

"I'm from Los Angeles, I came here because my mother found a better job. I think this place is pretty shit though. So fucking many rich people." Charlotte complained. Well, she wasn't completely telling the truth here. Charlotte's mother had indeed gotten a new job, but the main reason for the transfer was Charlotte. She'd signed into a new label that promised her success in her music career.

"I saw an electric guitar beside your bed this morning, you play the guitar?" Seo-jun asked, but when she turned around, Charlotte disappeared. "Unnie? Where are you?" Seo-jun's voice started to build a tone of agitation. How could Charlotte just disappear when they were talking? "That's just breaking the number 1 rule of making friends." She thought.

"I'm over here, are you fucking blind?" Charlotte's voice came from below. She was tying her shoelaces.

"For god's sake, unnie we're going to be late if you're going to take your sweet time to tie your fucking Nike Airs. We won't have time to give you a tour!" Seo-jun sounded really irritated this time.

Charlotte knew that her way of speaking was not the best but she's never met someone who didn't bother putting up a nice performative act for someone they've never met before, especially someone who seemed to have a good reputation in school.

"Chill, Seo-jun, the teacher isn't going to behead us right now."

As they walked, Charlotte noticed that the school was covered in greenery. A posh gothic architectural design infused with the greenery of modern-day architecture. This school looked interesting. Charlotte and Seo-jun started to get to know each other through small talk. Even though they've just met, Seo-jun spoke to Charlotte like an annoying cousin. She couldn't tell if Seo-jun hated her, liked her or absolutely despised her presence but strangely, she was comfortable with Seo-jun as her new roommate. It was a strange dynamic of course but Charlotte thought, "Could Seo-jun be my first friend to guide me through the unfamiliar corridors of Amaryllis high?"
