~Alana
Where am I going? The trees zoom by like hazes. The clear, blue sky blurs into the trees. I don't know how but I know I'm almost there.
I'm getting close to the intersection. I hear a screech of tires and I look to my left. All I see is dark brown hair and a blurred face.
Shards of glass are flying around me and my head hits the sharp glass of the window.I screamed. My eyes flew open and I felt relief when I saw that I was still in my bed. My body was covered in sweat.
"Lana, what's wrong?" My mom ran into my bedroom, looking worried.
"Oh. Nothing. It was just a nightmare." I answered, uncovering myself from the blankets.
"Why are you still in bed? I thought you already left for school. You're late."
"Actually. Can I stay home today? I'm not feeling too good."
"Alright. I guess... Be careful." She said before closing the door to my room.
Be careful? Of what?
It felt weird lying to my mom. I didn't usually fake being sick- actually I never fake being sick- but this was a special occasion. I had planned to meet my two best friends Ryder and Ryland that day. They were my oldest friends. It had been a while since all three of us were together and we wanted to check out this new amusement park.
I jumped out of bed when I heard my mom shut the front door on her way out. I looked at my alarm clock and saw that it was 8:26 already. School had started just over 20 minutes ago. I felt kind of giddy knowing everyone else was stuck at school on a Friday, boring themselves to death and I was going to a new amusement park with my two best friends.
I was even missing cheerleading practice. I knew Catya would be so mad at me, but it was worth it. Catya Wild was the cheer leading captain and one of my good friends.
I decided to text Ryder to see if he was going to leave soon. He lived about 2 hours from Greenville.
Before I left my room, I stopped to look at my reflection in the mirror. My pajamas were covered in sweat stains. My curly hair was frizzier than usual and I had dark circles under my eyes. I had barely gotten any sleep thinking about cutting school for the first time. My left eyelid started to twitch.
Pull yourself together. You get to see your best friends soon. Everything is going to be fine.
I spent a little extra time getting ready that day for the simple reason that I was in love Ryder Harrison.
