I jumped out of Ace's truck and skipped toward the trail.
"Remind me why we are doing this again?" Ace asked as he got out of the car lazily.
"It's good exercise and it's a nice day." I replied.
I turned around to get a good look at him. He had shorts on today. I got to see his calves today. I felt so special. Just another perfect body part of the beautiful green eyed boy.
He was wearing a baseball cap. I was sad I couldn't see his beautiful hair, only a few strands peaked out from under. Of course, he still looked gorgeous with a hat on.
"But why did we have to wake up so early. It's Saturday." He tilted his head back in annoyance. My attention focused on his Adam's apple. It didn't matter what position he was in, he looked like a model.
"We only have so much time before it gets hot." I said. "Come on." I motioned for him to follow me and he did.
It was almost spring, so the days were getting warmer. This day in particular was supposed to be pretty warm. I looked around as we hiked up the trail. The flowers and trees looked so perfect and I took a mental picture not wanting to forget a single detail of this moment.
Even if this was just a hike between friends, it was with Ace, so it was special.
The path I chose was supposed to be about 2 miles. It was pretty steep sometimes but I figured it wouldn't be too bad.
Boy was I wrong.
I could hear Ace huffing as he kept up behind me. I tried to catch him struggling but he wouldn't let me. Every time I turned around to look at him, his breathing calmed and he walked like he didn't have a care in the world. We spent most of the hike this way.
I hiked a lot with my dad when I was younger, so the hill wasn't too bad, but even I could feel my calves starting to burn.
"Hey. How much longer?" Ace asked. His voice showed no hints of strain. I didn't understand how he was so good at controlling his breathing. I had slowed down a ways back, but there was no way he could have already caught his breath.
It was already almost noon, and the sun was starting to burn my face. My hair felt hot at the touch.
"Well, we should have been going downhill by now, but I think we might have missed the turn." I said. I kept my eyes forward afraid of what his reaction might be.
"What. The fuck!" He said and I could finally hear the strain. I turned around to see him bent over with his hands on his knees. He looked exhausted. "Are you saying that we're lost?" He asked.
"Maybe." I said as I shrugged my shoulders shyly.
"I'm going to kill you." He looked up at me. He had some crazy eyes. I don't remember him ever giving me a glare like that before.
It was kind of hot, but fear overwhelmed my attraction.
He took a step toward me and I booked it down a side trail. All of a sudden he had his energy back because he sprinted right after me.
