I hopped into the big car and sat in the middle seat next to Catya. Ryland was sitting in the row behind us. Xander was in the passengers seat and Kade put the car into drive.
"So is this your car?" Catya asked.
"Yeah." Kade answered.
"Of course you'd have a creepy van." Catya mumbled.
"It's not even creepy." Kade said.
"Yeah. It's more like a soccer mom car." Ryland said.
Kade shrugged.
After our last meeting, Ryland had suggested that we visit the new amusement park together. It had opened a few months back in Sancity. We decided to wait until the next weekend because we wanted to stay the whole day rather than waiting until after school was over. Kade had volunteered to drive us
"Can we play some tunes?" I asked.
Xander messed with the radio.
"What kind of music do you guys like?" Xander asked.
"Rock." Ryland said.
"Hmm. Pop? Sometimes rock." Catya said.
"I'm kind of into jazz right now." Kade said.
"I like-um- a little bit of everything." I said.
"Alright. I'm just going to put it on the local station." Xander said.
The car ride was quiet. I turned around and saw Ryland with a neck pillow and her eyes closed. Catya was scrolling on her phone. I couldn't see Xander.

"How should we start?" Ace asked, placing down a flashlight. It was a good question.
Ace and I had decided to come back to the old high school on a Saturday. Neither of us had discovered our abilities yet.
"Well, there's only two possibilities for you." I said.
Ace sat down on the dusty bleachers.
"Curse and mirror." Ace nodded.
"Have you tried either?" I asked.
"I tried cursing someone yesterday, actually." He said.
"Who?" I asked.
"My dad." He said. "It didn't work."
"How do you know?" I asked.
"I asked him if anything unlucky happened and he said no and then he got really suspicious that I'd done something." He laughed.
"Why would you curse your dad?" I asked.
"Just a mild one." He shrugged.
"Maybe that's why. Why don't you try it on someone you actually want to curse?" I suggested.
Ace looked up. He nodded.
"Do you have anyone in mind?" I asked.
"Maybe."

We got inside the gates of the park fairly quickly.
"I want to go on that ride first." Misa pointed up at the first ride we saw.
"No way. You always have to go on the spinning rides last." Catya said.
"We should do a water ride first." Kade said.
