six months til.

i stare at joshua as he smiles standing next to me.

"why are you staring at me like that, t?"

he jokes, pushing my side.

"oh nothing," i reply, looking down at the vinyls in my hands.

"i can take those off your hands," he smiles.

i don't look up, but i shove them toward his way.

"thank you," he smiles.

the door rings and i make my way over to the cash register.

"hi, thank you for coming to vinyl shelf, how can i help you?"

"do you have this cd in a vinyl?"

"oh taylor swift? i can look in the back."

"thank you."

i nod and go behind the curtain, it takes me a few minutes to find the specific album that the customer is looking for.

"here you go, that's... forty dollars."

the person nods. i look at them, with a black crop top, black shorts and fishnets on. and earrings that say they/them.

i smile as they take the bag with their vinyl from my hands.

"thank you come again."

"thanks."

"you're a pro," joshua says coming out of nowhere.

"t-thanks," i smile.

"you were so nervous," he says, pushing me slightly.

"oh please, you're much better at this... whole working thing than i am."

"you and i both know you only say that because you're not very confident in yourself, t."

"mmm. you think so, j?"

"i've known you since kindergarten, t. i know so."

he starts to follow me around as i stock some of the record containers with vinyls.

"just because you've known me the longest doesn't mean you know me the best."

"so i'm wrong?"

"well no.. but-."

"see! point proven."

"right right."

"you know i'm just joshing right?"

"i wish i never told you that joke in the fourth grade. my biggest regret ever."

"oh! but not mine, t. because i love making that joke."

"i hate you."

"you love me."

"of course i do."

"matty's coming in soon."

"finally. i would like my shift to be over."

"but it's so boring without you, t."

"you'll see me after i get off and conan comes in."

"okay, yeah, that dude is the coolest. but nobody beats you."

"you will see me after work. and joshua.. we live together. god you're dramatic." i laugh.

he laughs too.

"fine. i'll see you after work, t."

"good."

"great."

i went back toward the register.

"welcome to vinyl shelf, how can i-. oh hello matty."

"greetings tyler. you can clock out now."

"thank goodness. i love you and vinyl shelf, but i'm so glad i'm done. i'm zooming out of this place."

"what's his deal?"

"he's pissed my shift is over."

"he leaves like two hours after you? and don't you two live together?"

"yeah- but that's."

"josh. go do your shift," matty smiles.

"yeah yeah. you got it boss," joshua laughs and then goes into the back room.

"bye tyler."

"bye matty, see you tomorrow."
