"im kicking you out."

"what?"

"i have to work today," he says, slipping his shirt on over his abs.

"i know."

"and you're worrying, ashley's off and i know hanging with them and ender would do you some good."

"you think so?"

"yes, im gonna drop you off."

"okay."

"i love you, tyler."

"i love you more, j."

-

"where is uncle josh?"

"he's not here."

"where is he?

"at work."

"is he coming over?"

"no, ender, honey."

ashley gives me a look.

"why not?"

"because i wanna spend time with you and your mom while your dads off working."

"i miss daddy."

ashley picks her son up and tries to get him to fall asleep.

'i still can't believe you found your soulmate and had a kid at eighteen,' i mouth to them.

'i'm twenty now okay. everything's sorted.'

'i'm not even that far in life and i'm almost eighteen.'

'you'll get it sorted, hon.'

ashley smiles and tells her son goodnight, giving him a kiss on the forehead and then takes ender to nap.

i stare at my phone watching the numbers chance while waiting for ashley to come back.

"the hell is going on?"

"i'm just having a friendly sleepover with my best friend, and my godson while her husband is off on a business trip."

"tyler robert joseph."

"i don't wanna be home alone."

"what?"

"im stressing so much over everything. and i thought joshua called you."

"he did."

"then why are you asking?"

"i just wanted to see if you'd tell me."

"okay, did i pass?"

"it's not a matter of passing. just checking up on you, you know. you're here... but that doesn't mean you're here. you know?"

"no i know."

she sits next to me on the couch.

"do you wanna watch anything?" they ask turning the tv on.

"no, not really. anything you wanna put on is fine."

"hey, tyler?"

"yeah?"

"i love you."

"i love you too."
