After an injury, Pedri González is left with frustration and pain, willing to sacrifice everything to play. When his then-girlfriend, Julia Soler, tried to talk him out of playing, he broke things off...
Things from there take a terrible turn for th...
After a much-needed rest in her hometown Sevilla, Julia was eager to return to Barcelona to reunite with her boyfriend and brother, both professional football players. As she gazed at the clouds, Julia was filled with a sense of happiness and contentment. She was pleased, but somehow she had an uneasy feeling about today and could not quite figure out what it was. Finally, the plane landed safely in Barcelona. As she stepped off the plane, she could hear the screams and cheers of people, instantly regretting it as a flash mob of reporters all flew at her, screaming questions at her in Spanish. She shook her head as she made her way past them.
"sin preguntas, por favor" no questions please.
Her arrival in Barcelona was supposed to be a surprise, but things didn't go as planned. Her brother Pablo, texted her right away, asking what she was doing at the airport. She tried to ignore him, but it wasn't easy. Feeling tired, all she wanted right now was to sleep, but she could not. She hailed a taxi and tossed her luggage into the trunk, all while wondering if she'd even make it to the Espanyol game. Regardless, her family had reserved a spot for her, and she made it her top priority to attend today. She eventually arrived at Camp Nou, where the game had not started. She adjusted her white shorts and Barcelona jersey, looked up, and noticed her family sitting in the front row. She ran over to them as fast as she could and grabbed them both into a hug.
"I've missed you both so much", she sighed.
"Us too, cariña! Come on, we'll get you an Estrella beer." promised her dad.
"Sounds amazing! But I'm driving as you know, papá," she declined, taking a seat next to her mother.
Meanwhile, Pedri was tying the shoelaces of his cleats while he awaited the start of his last game before he left for the world cup in Qatar. He was excited but also nervous. He felt the team needed redemption from their previous match 6 months ago, in which they lost by 1 goal. He loved football with all his heart, and the thought of scoring a goal for the team filled him with a sudden rush of energy. A while later, the signal came for the players to make their way to the tunnel. Taking a deep breath, a focused Pedri stood up and followed his teammates towards the long corridor.
The match began in the scorching sun, with FC Barcelona taking the lead in the first half. Everything went smoothly until Pedri was tackled while shooting for the goal.
"GOAL! Pedri scored woooooooo" someone yelled.
The entire stadium was roaring, and the crowd was on its feet. Julia leapt up, hugging her mother tightly while bouncing with excitement. Pedri finally caught a glimpse of her in the sea of people and was taken aback. He stood frozen, eyes wide with shock. However, the surprise on his face quickly transformed into a broad smile, and he eagerly waved to her, locking eyes with Julia. But she could tell something wasn't right. She kissed her parents goodbye at halftime and left to chat with Pedri. He saw her walking towards him from the opposite side of the room. Their eyes met. It felt like the universe had stopped, and everything inside it stood still. Everything... except for her heart, suddenly beating like a madman. Due to their hectic schedules, it had been a month since they had seen each other.
"Hey, mi princesa. What are you doing here?" Pedri embraced her in a bear hug, delighted to see her in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the stadium.
"Just came to support my star," Julia grinned cutely.
"You sure you're alright? You don't seem like yourself," she remarked, concern etched on her face.
Pedri chuckled, thinking that her reaction and words were cute. "I'm fine, amorcito. Nothing like that," he laughed nervously, his ears turning red and scratching his neck, making it more evident that he was lying.
"I know you're lying. I can't believe you are doing this again. You could get seriously hurt-"Julia said as she advised him not to play in this game and to sit out until his injury was examined. But his ego would not let him, and he was willing to sacrifice everything for this important game. He cut her off.
"I can't do this right now, Julia. You are just overreacting! Can't you just leave me alone?! It's my decision if I want to play or not. I can't take the nagging, the neediness and all the bitching anymore. Dios, you suffocate me," he snapped angrily. His facial expression completely changed, and his eyes grew darker.
"Excuse me? Wow, I can't believe you! No me estás escuchando. You can't just tell me to stop talking and think I will just act like nothing happened. It's like- like you want me to leave, " she said, the last part looking at him with anger and sadness.
"Be my guest then! You know your way out. Do you or do I have to show you?! This is clearly not working out anymore, " he said, grabbing her by the arms and throwing her out.
"You want to break up?" she asked with her voice breaking and tears forming. He immediately regretted saying what he did, slamming his hand into the locker as Julia exited the changing area crying. She walked out of the stadium and into the parking lot, deciding she needed to get home.
