"I can't believe Gavi is playing here at the final against Italy!" Julia exclaimed excitingly as she walked into the stadium with her parents and friends. The stadium kept getting fuller and fuller, and the more familiar faces Julia saw. The energy was unmatched. She had been to many of Pablo's games, but nothing was as extraordinary as the World Cup. There was no denying that her brother would change football. He was unstoppable, and she was incredibly proud of him. He trained hard for weeks, months, and years to be where he is now. He was the one who inspired her to never give up on anything she was passionate about.
As Julia snapped back, she saw that Pedri was keeping an eye on her rather than doing his drills. She didn't mind because it was comforting in a way. Julia broke eye contact and leaned over the railing to speak with Gavi, who was warming up on the pitch.
"I'm nervous, Jules." He said.
"Gavi, you're going to be fine. You've worked so hard for this! Plus, we both know you're going to win. Trust me?" Julia replied as she fist-bumped his hand, hoping to reassure him and distract him from the prospect of losing the match he would play.
"Siempre", he said. She hugged him tightly and went to sit with her family and Lando. She had invited Lando with her to the final. He didn't particularly enjoy football but decided to go since he wanted to spend every last second with Julia before the preparation for the Grand Prix started. As Julia was excitedly talking Lando's ear off about the game, someone over the speaker said their names. Julia's eyes squinted, and she turned to face the big screen above her. The large screen then switched to show her and Lando seated close to each other. They waved and grinned as the crowd cheered.
"Everyone's totally shipping you two," Sira said out of the blue.
"What?! I'm not sure what you're on about." Julia was taken aback by her statement. Sira laughed at Julia's confused state.
"Of course you don't. How would you with the way you both look at each other? Come on, girl. The chemistry between you two is so obvious. Everyone can feel and see it."
"Nonsense, I don't like him that way. I'm not developing any feelings what so ever towards him.", Julia retorted, sounding a little defensive.
"OK. If you say so, Jules, but think about it. It is about time you get over Pedri." Sira raised her hands in surrender, but she still looked at her with curious eyes.
"He is just a friend Sira." She said, shrugging. Julia couldn't possibly be falling for him, right? She knew Lando was genuine, and just thinking about him caused her to smile. She admired Lando in every way. But then again...was she really over Pedri? She glanced to her right and found Lando perplexed by their conversation. She simply smiled and seemed as if nothing had happened. The match started, and she sat there enjoying the game.
Seventy minutes in and the score was stuck at 2-1. Julia grew slightly nervous as the game grew more intense, and Spain only had one goal. They were suffering at the moment. Pedri finally had the ball at his feet and quickly left, heading to the penalty area. He managed to run past two defenders, and the keeper was now approaching him, so he slid the ball under his feet and watched it roll into the back of the net. The stadium shook with noise as his teammates ran towards him. He kissed the emblem as he ran to the corner flag and did his signature glasses celebration. The game resumed, and Gavi got possession of the ball and began dribbling down the field. He shot it as hard as possible and scored the most incredible goal for Spain. Her heart was beating so fast. Julia couldn't help but jump for joy, and the Spanish supporters erupted. After the full-time whistle was blown, the match finished at 2-3.
"He has done it! Gavi scored the winning goal," Sira yelled beside her, shocked. Gavi approached Pedri and embraced him while messing with his hair. The players were all bawling, and his teammates crammed him into a huge group hug which caused them all to collapse on the ground. Julia couldn't believe it; her brother was a world champion. He was, in fact, the youngest to ever score in a World Cup final and win it for his country! She wiped her tears away by pulling her shirt sleeves over her face. All the long hours of work and sessions Gavi put in had finally paid off for this moment.
