It had been quite a long and hectic week for Julia. But today was the day Pedri's mom had invited them to lunch. Julia had not looked forward to this day since she landed in Barcelona because she expected Pedri and Tiffany to be there. She heaved a heavy sigh the moment she rang the doorbell. The door flew open, and a smiling Maria and Fernando greeted her with open arms and wide grins.
"Oh hey there, mija! Hi Pablo." Maria said, hugging Julia lovingly and waving to her brother. Julia hugged them both back. They loved Julia like their own daughter. His family always thought the two of them would end up together. Everyone did, and they were outraged when they learned that Pedri had initiated the breakup.
Julia walked inside and was instantly greeted by Pedri's baby cousin, Valerie jumping onto her. She smiled as she pulled her into her arms and laid her head on her shoulder. She casually looked around the home when she saw someone's eyes on her. She almost slipped her balance as she met his eyes, the pretty dark brown ones she had often stared at. Pedri had stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Julia at the doorframe with her family. He held her gaze for a while, watching her with interest as she entered. He was wearing a baby blue shirt. Blue had always been a good colour on him. She looked a little further and noticed Tiffany seated on his lap.
"Babe, kiss me," Tiffany said intentionally. Pedri grinned and was now holding her close, kissing her passionately. Julia looked at them with big eyes. She wasn't expecting them to be this upfront, which made her body tense like a statue.
Soon Tiffany smirked and remarked, "Gosh, Julia, is that you? You've grown so much since the last time I saw you." as she got up to give Julia an awful hug, pretending they were best friends in this lifetime. She was pathetic. Julia just sent her the most insincere smile and joined the women in the kitchen to stay distracted and distanced from Pedri.
After cooking, her mom called everyone together, and they all sat down to eat. All the adults indulged in some light conversation while Julia was fiddling with her food, losing her appetite because of the two lovebirds. She tried to join the conversation, but she couldn't concentrate. Everyone seemed somewhat happy while she was feeling miserable. The thought of Pedri seeing someone else and forgetting about her seemed never to leave her brain. She was forced to watch her ex fall in love with another person right before her. She was about to put a piece of food in her mouth when she noticed him staring at her. Her fork landed on her plate, creating the loudest clashing noise.
"I am so sorry. You are familiar of how clumsy I am," she told the table as they all laughed with her.
"Julia dear, you have lost so much weight. You should eat more. With all of the travelling you did over the past year, your body must have endured a lot." Julia just nodded with a faint smile. After ten minutes, she abruptly stood up from the table, saying that she had lost her appetite, and went to put the dish away. Soon the others also finished, and Tifanny hastily left, claiming she had to meet up with her pals. Julia helped take everything inside and heard Pedri and his cousin talk about how happy he was with Tiffany and how good she was in bed as she passed his room. The way they discussed women made her feel repulsed. She didn't ever want to be in a relationship with someone who kissed and told. Instead of a horny asshole, she needed a guy who would love her till the end, and Lando was precisely that. He was a couple of years older and was so mature for his age. He was everything a girl wanted, but Julia knew rushing into a relationship when these awful feelings towards Pedri were present would not be fair to anyone. She tried keeping her mind off by playing with Valerie. Baby Val was Julia's favourite human being in his family. She was just too cute for this world. Even though most of their conversations were slurred and with inaudible noises, she spoke to her frequently.
"Juli!! NOO- " Valerie shrieked and uttered Julia's name so sweetly that she couldn't help but smile. She scooped Val up and tickled her while she squealed and laughed.
When she returned from playing with Valerie, her family and friends were gathered in front of the tv, watching football on the sofa. Everyone's eyes were glued to the tv. Nevertheless, Julia, sitting beside her father, had other plans because the day had worn her out. Sleeping seemed safe because she likewise had no desire to interact with anyone. She fell asleep listening to the football match on her dad's shoulder. Her father chuckled as soon as he noticed her steady breathing and decreased movement. He knew Julia had been up late and was doing everything in her ability to fall asleep, but it was difficult with work and stress. He eventually also fell asleep on her head. Pedri looked at them both and sighed but smiled, seeing Julia sleeping so cutely on her dad's shoulder.
When she woke up, it was because she heard giggles and clicks. She lifted her head from where it had been held and looked at her dad. She felt many eyes on her. She rubbed her eyes, forcing them open, and saw their families at the end of the couch with a slight smile awwing at her. Pedri just smiled, looking in Julia's direction with a soft expression. He stared at her for a moment, not saying anything.
"I think we need to get these two sleepyheads home." Her mom joked, breaking the silence, pulling out a hand for her dad to get off the couch while Gavi picked her up on his back after giving her a small head kiss.
"Thank you, guys, for coming in and spending time with us. Come back anytime soon!" Fernando called them as they headed for the house's front doors.
