They all sat in silence as they watched the unconscious girl, her chest slowly rising and falling as a machine beeped every few seconds.
Wednesday looked over at Ajax, the eyebags under his eyes saying it all. He sat beside Enid's bed, holding her hand as he looked up at her face, his eyes silently pleading with her. Wednesday looked over to Xavier, who also had his eyes on Ajax before they darted to hers, sharing a concerned look before they looked back at him.
"Ajax, do you want to go home and shower and then come back? Me and Wednesday-"
"No."
Xavier gave a swift nod, not forcing the subject on him. He looked down at Wednesday, and her eyes were focused on Enid's monitors.
Her stomach tied itself in knots again, the crash playing in her mind as she tried to focus on anything else but the vision. Tears threatened to spill, and she couldn't believe she was letting herself be this vulnerable. She cursed the emotions she felt, as she didn't want to be seen as weak during this time.
Suddenly the monitor started going off, all of their heads snapping to the screen that now displayed a flashing light. The alarm pierced through the air, slicing through the silence that they had been sitting in. They all three hopped up, trying to figure out why it was going off.
Wednesday walked up to Enid, trying to find her pulse as a few nurses came in, one tasked with bringing them out. She slowly herded Xavier and Wednesday out, but Ajax stood firm.
"Sir, I need you to leave so we can treat her."
Tears began rolling down his cheeks, and Xavier rushed in and grabbed him, leading him out.
Wednesday stood outside, and as soon as the boys walked out the door was shut.
Ajax leaned his back against the wall, sliding down as his hands covered his face. Wednesday went over beside Xavier, grabbing his hand and squeezing it. They heard a loud thud, then another before the alarms went off. They stood in silence, fearing the worst.
A nurse came out, followed by the rest. Ajax jumped up, rushing to one of them.
"Can I go back in to see her? Please, tell me she is going to be okay?!"
The nurse slowly nodded, looking at the three of them before responding.
"We are keeping an eye on her, she lost quite a bit of blood, and we have to make sure her vitals are on regular levels. She will be okay, it will just take time."
She gave him a sad smile, patting his shoulder before she went off.
Ajax ran back to the door, quickly walking in. Xavier followed, but Wednesday stood there for a moment. Xavier looked back, holding the door for her. He watched her face, as it twisted with concern before she made her way back into the room.
Her and Xavier watched as Ajax began to readjust Enid's limp body, putting her in a comfortable position and covering her back up. He pulled the chair back beside her bed, sitting down as he began to brush her hair with his fingers. He was muttering something to her, but not loud enough for the two to hear what he was saying.
Her eyes drifted to Xavier's, locking with his. His eyes went back and forth, almost narrowing as he studied her. They stood there a little longer, before he gave her a small smile. He walked slowly to Ajax, and she followed his lead.
Ajax looked up at Xavier, his bloodshot eyes once again tearing, and stood up to give him a hug. He began to sniffle, and Xavier held him until Ajax pulled back, looking down as he rubbed his nose with his sleeve. Wednesday made her way over, offering him a small hug. He quickly wrapped his arms around her, and she slowly did the same.
