"the moon and the stars tried their best, but I couldn't look away from you."

His thumb rubbed against the back of her hand, and they drove in silence as they made their way back to Nevermore. The evening had been delightful, and he had to admit it was probably his best Valentine's celebration. He had spent it with the monotone girl who had been deemed the outcast at a school of outcasts, the girl who some feared, or revered, but over all that, the one that held his heart close. Nobody got to see the caring, smiling side of Wendy, and he was selfishly grateful only a few close acquaintances had. She drew memories in his mind he could never erase, and painted colors in his heart he could never replace. She was his midnight muse, the one his mind found itself back to after getting lost in a daze. It was her that made him feel more alive, her touch leaving his heart beating and her smile shaking the ground he stood on.
Looking over at her, he flashed a small smile as he noticed how she admired the stars.
She felt his gaze linger on her a moment before focusing on the road, and a small smile found its way to her face. Generally, she avoided going out during this time in fear of seeing people being all intimate, the sight disgusting to her. But he had chosen a place that was quiet, pretty much empty, and secluded from the city. It made her heart flutter, the way he took into consideration her likes and dislikes. Tyler, on the other hand, had tested her limits. Xavier was respectful of her choices when they were made rationally, to say the least. How she had managed to even open her heart and welcome the boy is still something that puzzles her, after all, she had come here expecting no alliances. Yet she found herself among a group of people who would take an arrow for her. She hoped the need never arose, but there was always a possibility if she was involved. She looked over at Xavier out of the corner of her eye, her eyes trailing down the sandy brown lock that lay on his shoulder. The way he made her feel at home within his arms, the way he listened intently and watched her made her butterflies go crazy. The little creatures had grown on her, and as long as she couldn't see them, it would be fine. He looked back over at her, locking eyes with her before giving a smirk and turning back to the road as they neared Nevermore.
She decided then that he was her favorite feeling.

"Did I tell you that you look astonishing this evening?"
"You know how to flatter me correctly."
"Is it working?"
She looked up at him as they walked to her dorm, and he knew the answer by the look in her eyes. It was quiet in the quad, and the only thing that could be heard was their faint whispers and the echo of their footsteps. As they came to her dorm, she turned to him.
"Thank you," she whispered.
"Anything for you," he smiled, grabbing both her hands.
A small blush arose on her cheek, and she was grateful that they were in the shadows. She turned and opened the door, laying eyes on Enid and Ajax as they were kissing, and she quickly, but quietly, shut the door. She turned to Xavier, and he cocked his head.
"Can I come with you for the night?"
"Woah, that's a big step for you," he replied, and she glared at him.
