THE WAY I felt compelled to write such a poetic opener was unfathomable. I love anything dealing with the sky, hence my quotes and frequent references to the stars and moon. <3

"for you, i'd steal the stars."

The stars stained the sky, whispering hushed promises to the moon. They danced across the sky, singing their praises in the night sky. Entangled in the darkness, illuminating from thousands of miles away, yet ever so close, that you might reach out and simply grasp them, holding them as they melted in the warmth of your palm. The promises they held, tales of the times, the secrets of the past. How ears had longed for their whimsical murmurs, for the answers they so begged them to share, yet only glistened in return. They burned brightly through the sky, encapturing the souls as they swooned and swayed, kissing cheeks and painting minds. Casting lights on the cold and weary, the bitter and broken, the lone travelers of the world. Have you ever wondered how many people have looked at the very star you have? How one star has inspired so many ballads, so many words, and sparked and ignited hope in a heart that had longed for rest? The way they showed that even if darkness surrounded you, stripped you of your dignity, and tore your soul apart, there was a way to shine, to break through the pain and suffering that has so cursed the souls of man? Many have been beguiled by their sweet beauty, consoled by their presence in the darkness. Ageless pledges that have doomed them to the sky, forever guide the human soul.

As she looked up at them, through the little window in the shed she had taken refuge in, her heart burned. Xavier stood beside her, but as hard as the stars had tried, to sway his eyes and carry his heart into their sweet embrace, he looked at her. The girl that had captured him in ways the luminaries only dreamt of. He looked at her, the soft light from the midnight sky glimmering against her big brown eyes. He had never had a favorite color until he saw them, the rich brown eyes held so many secrets, so many troubles and aches that refused to present themselves any other way. He belonged fully to her, and her alone as long as the supernovas painted the atmosphere, and danced across her eyes. He belonged to her the way the moon belonged to the stars, complete in each other. Through all the phases, through every stage, he had fought and overcome, and the stars in her eyes would bring him out of the darkness, and he shall once again kiss the sky. To her, fully and completely, he couldn't fathom it any other way.

She turned her head to him, meeting his gentle gaze as a small smile tugged at her lips. The portrait of her now sat behind them, the dark colors swirling across the canvas. Her hand met his cheek, wiping away the smear of paint. As she did so, he studied her face, taking it all in once again. He didn't think there would ever be a time he didn't study her; she was his favorite masterpiece. Her eyes drifted back to his, and they seemed to speak the words her heart longed to say aloud. She caught his lips, letting the warmth of them soothe her as his hand snaked around her waist, pulling her in ever so slightly. It made her feel as if the stars were dancing across her skin, burning deeply within her as they pulled away from each other, and she couldn't control the small gasp that escaped her lips.

This wasn't like her; it wasn't her at all. To enjoy actions of intimacy as this. But then again, the absence of his warmth may kill her more than the change that was occurring within her. It shocked her, really, to be here in this moment, looking into the eyes she had sworn to never fall for. Falling for him hadn't felt like falling at all, rather it felt as if she had walked into a house, and suddenly knew she was home. It was instinctive, like an effortless intake of breath, like the beat of her heart, like the waves in the sea, like the rise and fall of the sun.
