Akari sat by herself on a park bench in dark clothing looking sad and alone and deep in thought. She used to wear bright colored clothes and be a happy spirited and adventurous girl. Everything changed a year ago. One night one year ago her life changed.
On that one night Akari had lost all of her close friends in a break in. Her parents had been out and it had just been her and her friends at the house when at least two men broke in and attacked. She was the only one to survive. Out of the eleven people in that house that night she was the only one to live. Everyone else had been killed. Why? Why did it happen? Why was she the only one to survive? Even her boyfriend died. Why did he have to die?
On top of that. Akarihad had a secret that was also gone now. Something she'd wanted to talk to Mickabout but never got the chance to. The night she'd lost her friends she'd beenpregnant. She never told anyone. Not even her parents. It didn't matter anymoreanyway since she'd lost the baby. A combination of severe grieving for herfriends and stress and trauma had caused a miscarriage.
"Why Mick? Why did you have to go and leave me? you said nothing would come between us. You took everything with you. I miss you. I miss everyone."
Akari cried silently to herself as she sat there on that bench with her depressing lonely thoughts. She'd been suffering from depression ever since that night. Especially after learning she'd lost the baby her parents and Mick never knew about and would never know about. No matter what was done to help her come out of it the feelings of loss, sadness, loneliness and fear and hate never seemed to stop. They never seemed to go away. Even now she thought about ending her suffering to be with Mick and their friends and her lost baby. Every time she thought about doing it though she never went through with it. She could never bring herself to do it.
Was it the fear ofdying that kept her from carrying out her plan to join Mick and the others? Wasit the fear of disappointing her parents that kept her from doing it? Maybe itwas her therapist who kept talking her out of it. perhaps it was the thoughtthat deep down Mick and the others would've wanted her to keep going and live.
"Orochi fought to live," Akari reminded herself. "Why shouldn't I?"
Orochi Ginba had been one of the two friends of Akari's who had been found alive when the police had arrived. The other one had been Zac. Zac had died of his wounds just a few minutes after he'd been found. He'd died upstairs laying on the floor feet from Akari's room. He'd been one of the friends Akari had passed while escaping the house.
Orochi had been found laying by the back door a couple feet from said door and the kitchen. He'd been injured badly during his fight with one of the men who'd broken in but at least he was still alive. Orochi had been quickly rushed to the hospital, the Beigoma Medical Center. Despite the doctors and nurses best attempts Orochi didn't survive. He spent three days in the ICU in a coma before passing and leaving Akari and the life she was carrying the sole survivors of that horrible night. A couple weeks later she lost the baby.
Though Akari and been barely injured she'd been badly traumatized. Yet she'd still survived and she remembered the whole night. She had told the police everything. She explained why ten boys were at her house that night. She mentioned where her parents had gone that night and why and if they knew about her get together. Akari also mentioned the alcohol and even gave the police descriptions of the two attackers she'd seen.
Of course the police had asked if she or any of her friends had known any of the men who'd attacked them. She said she didn't and in Zac and Orochi's statements, Zac before he died and Orochi before he was taken to the hospital, it was stated they didn't know the men either. Who these men were and what they wanted were a mystery even now. Especially since no one else was alive to ask if they'd known them.
