12: HOW DID I GET HERE?

Rain couldn't pinpoint the exact moment when his world became all about Phayu, but it had somehow happened.

All he wanted was to see him and to spend time with him to the exclusion of everything else. He found himself rushing through classes, rushing away from friends, only wanting to see Phayu's face, to feel his eyes on him.

He didn't realize it until he was standing in the rain, having had the worst day of his life.

Instead of working on his assignment last night, he had gone to dinner with Phayu. He stayed up till 5 AM finishing it. He had planned on napping for an hour and getting up in time to submit his work by the deadline. But he had overslept, missed the deadline, and gotten reamed by the professor. This had never happened to him before.

All he wanted was to have Phayu soothe his beat-up heart, to be comforted by him - although he knew that Phayu would likely not coddle him.

Normally, he would have driven home into his mother's arms. She would have wiped his tears and stroked his hair. Yes, he would have also gotten a scolding, but then she would have given him some loving encouragement and made delicious food.

When did that become not enough?

Why did his hands steer the car here, before his mind even settled on a route?

Why did his racing heart yearn only to see Phayu, even when he was so beaten down and discouraged?

Worst of all, he had no idea if Phayu felt the same pull, or if he would welcome him.

Was he just another of 'Phayu's Boys', as the mechanics liked to call him?

So many moments poked at his insecurities as he stood there.

He thought disgustedly about that day when he felt like he was just one of many boys that had passed through the garage.

Here he was sitting in the glass-enclosed office area for Phayu to come back from work. 

He had tried and failed to get in front of him the past couple of days, but had caught him on the phone earlier and he had promised to get there soon.

That was almost two hours ago....

Someone had been kind enough to bring him some snacks, so he still waited with determination to accomplish Step 1 of the mission as Sky had advised.

He finally heard someone entering and looked up. He didn't recognize the person. He was about Phayu's age with short, shaggy hair and a beard. His face broke out in a wide smile when he saw Rain seated there.

"Hey Nong, you must be Phayu's Boy!"

"Umm, hello Phi! I'm Rain but I'm not 'P'Phayu's Boy'."
